I'll be making a trip to Orlando to take my wife and 4 kids to the "Happiest Place on Earth" in 2 months or so and would like to hit 1 good knife store. I doubt my wife will let me cruise around too much. Can someone recommend the 1 store that I shouldn't miss? I've found a couple: one called "The Knife Factory" and one called "Randall Knives". Can anybody recommend one or the other? Or another one? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

wkrafft, MAN DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT MISSING THE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT THE RANDALL SHOP. IF YOU ASK REAL NICE AND THEY AREN'T TO BUSY GARY RANDALL MAY EVEN GIVE YOU A TOUR. RANDALLS ARE CONSIDERED TO BE ONE OF THE CREME DELA CREME OF THE KNIFE WORLD. YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO GET ONE, BUT YOU REALLY SHOULD NOT MISS THE CHANCE TO GO. IT WILL BE YOUR VERSION OF DISNEY WORLD.

If I'm not mistaken The Knife Factory is located in the huge factory outlet complex. They stock some nice knives, unfortunately the prices are suggested retail. The sales person I talked to was not knowledgeable. Watch the prices at all the "outlet" stores there, the Nike store is one notable exception!
Have fun in Florida!!

Hey thanks for the heads up!.

You know, I never put 2 & 2 together to figure out that "Randall Knives" was THE Randall Made Knives. Will have to check it out.

thanks, I thought that might be the one at the mall. I don't mind retail once in a while, espcially if I get to fondle a lot of knives.

I have been to the knife store in the outlet mall. If you don't make it there you won't miss much. It is a tourist trap.

Agree on the knife store. Its an expensive tourist trap. But, dont miss the Randall Factory. Service is really first rate and there is a nice 3,000 knife museam (Bo's personal collection). Warning,Randall is only open Monday Through Friday, and Friday is a half day (closes at 1:00PM).

Here's a little tip from a Disney 'droid.
Monday is when all of the tourist's are usually kicking off their Magic Kingdom vacations and the parks are heavily traffiked, especially the Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom.
During this time of the year, we, the residents of Florida rule the World(Disney) on the weekends. Especially EPCOT and the MK. It can get pretty crowded at those two parks, but Animal Kingdom is sometimes wall to wall too. Especially on Saturday. Friday's are a fairly good time because it seems the residents are all at work and the tourists are elsewhere in Orlando or are heading home.
TIP: Buy the "Unoffcial Guide to Walt Disney World" and read it thru. You'll be glad you did.
Also, don't even THINK about going on Washington's B-day, Spring Break(college) or Easter, unless of course, you like waiting in huge lines and being up to your ears in other tourists and/or raucus, rowdy and largely unsupervised school kids. Blechhh! Also, in March, EPCOT brings in a lot of school kiddies on field trips, so be prepared to share the park with thousands of children.

I hope this will help you on your vacation. Enjoy!

I would'nt waste my time going to Randall, been there - done that! Nothing but an old shack with empty dusty cases. There really is'nt anything to speak of in Orlando. If you can get the better part of the day, I would zip over to the east coast and check out Microtech. Good Luck!
