My nephew just graduated high school and I'm getting him a knife. I'm going to have "Class of 2011" engraved on it and was looking for a nice stainless knife. I was thinking the Spyderco Dragonfly. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Shayn

Any Spyderco with stainless handles. The Cricket, Chinese Lum. These are good for engraving on handles. If you want to engrave on the blade then anything with a flat grind is nice. I had a purple FFG Endura engraved for my girlfriend for our anniversary and it turned out very nicely.

You could go a more traditional route with a Victorinox Alox of some sort.

Engraved or pantographed? If it's engraved it's done by hand, not machine. If it's done by machine it's not engraved, and it really doesn't matter what the material is. They can pantograph plastics and micarta easy. If it's done by laser it's etching.

Hand engraving is easy on flat surfaces, but can do curves too, Machines don't do curves as well.

Making a nice knife personal is a cool idea, and the Spyderco knives are good too. You're going to give him something that's better than most of the stuff presented to grads.

For something really different you could try a knife like this German one.

Be careful, the engraving on the handle of my SOG twitch 2 in Smokee Mtn knife store was not bold enough to see easily.

The Kershaw Leek, Shallot, Chive, and Scallion would be good candidates for engraving (the stainless framelock models, of course).

Thanks for the suggestions. I went with the Spyderco. I ordered it from Knifeworks and was going to have them engrave it. Anyone have them do one befoe?

Thanks,
Shayn
