Tuff,
One of the best and easiest to find is American Survival Guide. I'm not sure if that is the Survival magazine you are talking about in your post. Ron Hood,(Doc Ron) Jeff Randall, and a few other familiar people write articles from time to time. Some others are- Wilderness Way, Backpacker,(this one has a decidedly granola head/liberal feel to it but they are great gear reviewers) Mother Earth News,(if you can get past the name) and one called Backwoods something or other. I can't recall the full name and have only been able to find it twice at Wal-mart. It was a really informative magazine and I wish I could find it again. I think it was only published 6 times a year. Your best bet is to buy Ron Hoods survival tapes.

Take care, (AND a big knife)
Jim

Backwoodsman Magazine- web site at www.magamall.com click on "by title" then "B" then "Backwoodsman". One of the few magazines I buy without even flipping through it first.

Also, don't forget the Quarterly rag known as Wilderness Way. Lots of primitive skills information to play with!!

well, the obvious answer would be American Survival Giude, otherwise known as "Major Surplus' monthly sales tool" much of the content is a semi-anual rehash of the basics and while they don't have the "wondergun-of-the-month" on the cover of every issue anymore the reviews still leave something to be desired, usualy they act like they can't find any ammo for whatever it is they are testing and just kinda do a photo-essay instead of really putting the hardware thru it's paces.

there used to be an "Online Survival Magazine" but they dried up and blew away.

"Backpacking" and "Outside" have some related information, once you chew thru the granola.

Tactical Knives started out being a terrific
blend of knives, survival and practical useage. Sadly,it is now just another ad-driven rag. Actually, one could make a
real argument for it being a Spyderco catalog.
I'd love to see a "real" survival magazine-
ASG used to have useful info every month,
particularly back in the 1980's.
