Well, this week has been a great one... Yesterday I got a brand new Toshiba laptop that I am typing on... this thing is the best.. fully loaded and fast as lightening... but the god news came today, this afternoon!

I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2007 GARY FISHER PIRANHA!!!!!!!!!!! The bike is amazing. I forked out some cash for it but after journeying back home 40 miles with it on the back of my car, it was time to hit the road and get a town ride in... I ended up getting the bike, some trek gloves, an air pump that attaches to the frame, and a neat little trek pouch that i keep my knife, wallet, and flashlight in. i love the entire bike.. totally neat and built like a tank!!!!! the rim walls are double lined, the tires appear very tough, the piranha has mechanical disc brakes (not hydrolic), axel shocks, and great overall components. i was fighting myself between this gary fisher piranha and the trek 4300...the 4300 did not have disc breaks and was step down as far as the overall components to the entire bike went... i also paid $60.00 and got an awesome bike carrier thing for the back of my civic, so i can take my bike places and ride from there without disassembling the entire bike and shoving it into my little car. the guys up in virginia off exit 19 (abingdon, virginia) totally hooked me up and fixd me up.. i got an absolutely incredulous bike and not to mention, the bike is tough as a tank. i took some picures for you guys but they are not too good.. my little camera is a piece of ****... sorry... but enjoy the pics and i will be enjoying my bike!!!!

oh yea i also got a 6 ft long cable to tie my bike up with when i am at school... check out my new toy!!!

well thats all and i know they are unoriginal and showcase my amazing little apartment, but hey thats all i can get for now... when i get a better camera or are with some buddies who have better cameras and we are out in the woods or lost in urbania somewhere, i will post some better pictures. I LOVE MY NEW GARY FISHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lemme tell ya about that cable.... Seriously, use the cable as a supplement to a good U-type lock. Put the U-lock through front wheel and frame, and loop your cable through the rear wheel.

Even the best thick, braided cables can be nibbled through rather easily with a decently sharp bolt-cutter.

See if your school has a lock program; we do. We "rent" a top-grade Kryptonite to the kids for as long as they need it for 20 bucks. Then we give 'em the money back when they leave. Or, they can just keep the lock.
Such a deal...

Nice wheels, BTW.

werner, thanks. we dont have a program like that. there are too many lazy unmotivated, "hey i forgot my ipod and i cant ride a bus because i am too cool" type of people around here to ever have some biking program where they rent you a lock.... sonds great but it isnt happening here... thanks for the info on the cables... i plan on doing that like you said. i am also going to be taking off my seat and carrying it inside with me... sorry ass thieves steal seats like crazy and i have a bag underneath my seat as you can see and i usually keep it stocked with my knives and blades when i am riding. ;) thanks again man... what kinda bike you riding?

:D NICE FISHER..I still ride and love my old school carbon fiber super caliber fisher.

Thank you.. Did a couple of miles tonite in the cool cool mountain air here around campus; it was most pleasant..

That is a sweeeeet ride! :D

What was the price?

Hehe- my current "stable" includes a 1982 Cilo (pronounced "see-low") from Belgium; a typical roadster of the period that I've rebuilt.
Also a 1981 Miyata "Pro-Miyata" that's in very good shape; I had to do minimal restoration work. Gearing is too high, though-need a bigger freewheel and/or a different crank.
Bike riders 30 years ago were either stronger or smaller than is now the average!

I also have my cobbled-together home-built recumbent.

Nice ride man. I am currently stationed on an Island in Greece. I bought a an ideal zigzag while I was here. Never heard of it before but it is built like a tank. On average I ride about 20 miles a day. On the weekends a bunch of guys here get together and just go get lost some where. I will be back stateside in a few months and plan on blasting some trails there. I bought some handlebar extensions and they make a big difference on the hills. I used to think they were a littl gimmicky but with the long hills over here I notice the difference. Again man great ride ...

I've been thinking of buying a mountain bike too. I've never owned one and I'm 37, but I was an instructor one summer and had a blast! I always had road bikes when I was younger, but around here I think you'd get run over riding on the highways.

So what other models did you consider? Did you try any of the 29" bikes?

Agree with the Kryptonite lock idea. The cables may be more practical, but they aren't as secure. Our college had a lock "rental" program too. I still have mine, fifteen years later. It might be worth asking - perhaps your school has a program but doesn't publicize it.

Dunno. I've gotten all sorts of paid jobs doing things that I'd never done before: 30.06 rifle instructor, 12 ga shotgun instructor, geologist, archaeologist, baker, coal miner...

It's not rocket science after all. Nothing is. Well, almost nothing.
