hey guys, does anybody have any ideas?...im looking for a gps that I can put directions into ......it is a set route I have to follow and am not familiar with the area....I also have to turn at certain streets.....Certain. stops are just two cross streets, not necessarily a house or business address....is it possible for me to put my own route into a gps to follow until I know where the hell I am going? And to stop me from trying to drive while reading directions?
Also I can't use a phone app while riving...I can only use a gps device
thanks for any help guys

On a side note I looked on google and the only thing I can find are apps that let you put in addresses and it plans a route between them....I have to pick up and drop off at certain streets....there are also streets I can't travel on

Any Garmin GPS supporting "trip planner" will let you save custom routes. Garmin's US web site lists three current production models with this feature (ascending price): Drive 51/61, DriveSmart 51/61, DriveAssist 51 LTM-S. Select a model, click on the "Specs" tab, scroll to the bottom, and look under "Additional":

To see how trip planner works, download your chosen model's .pdf manual and look for "trip planner."

I own an older model DriveSmart but I haven't used this feature. What I'm reading online is that custom routes with more waypoints work better and are less subject to recalculation.

Thanks for the info. What about driving a route and have the gps save it while you’re driving? Is that possible

You can edit and save a route while you're following it, if you can find a place to pull over. (I wouldn't care to try this while driving.) But you must have a route to follow, either one the GPS calculated for you or one you made and saved with "trip planner."

There are apps that can map your route as you go and save it. They're mostly used for hiking and bicycling but I've accidentally left one on and driven off and it continued to map where I drove.

I haven't used ViewRanger much but I have the impression it might suit your needs better than the apps I'm more familiar with.
