I made the mistake of ordering a knife from an online bookseller. The knife had a problem and had to be returned; it also looked like it had previously been sold. I wasn't going to take a second chance so I started researching online knife retailers. By chance I went to the gpknive.com website and happened to click on the "About Us" and lucky me finds out they are about a 45 minute drive away. I will admit that this is the first "real" knife shop I have ever been too. This place is clean, orderly, organized and I would say 75% of the merchandise is knives, the other 25% sharpening supplies, some paracord, packs etc. and some nice flashlights (nice ones such as Surefire). They have LOTS of knives. I have never gazed at so many in one spot.
Anyway, the website does list inventory and it was spot on. I had a small list when I walked in. An ESEE knife, pouch, molle rig, some bright orange paracord, one of the ESSE arrowheads. It was all listed in stock and when I got to the store they had it. I returned a few days later and bought a Becker BK2 and a KA-BAR folder. I should have called them first to make sure they had it but didn't. Sure enough they had it.
I don't think any of the three knives I purchased were display models. They grabbed a new unopened box and inspected each one. They operated the cheap inexpensive KA-BAR folder to make sure it was O.K.. The same salesperson helped me both times, can't remember his name.
Can't comment about the service they provide for online sales because I won't be placing online orders with them!! I have no problem driving 45m to Troy, IL.
