My daughter wants to buy a pocketknife for a coworker for her "Secret Santa" gift. She asked me about a "Grand Way" brand knife that she she found on Amazon.

I haven't been able to find out much about them.

Anyone have experience with their knives?

BTW, the Secret Santa exchange won't happen until after the new year because most of the company is on vacation.

Thanks.

They appear to be made in Russia/Ukraine. It looks like they make many, many different kinds of knives ranging from very cheap, to very expensive. They probably don't have much in the way of warranty, but that may not matter at all in this situation.

Probably some "Amazon Brand" where you buy a generic china knife and put your own company logo on it and increase the unjustified price. Depending on the budget, I'd look on a knife specific vendor site and get some known budget folder within the price range instead so you know what you're getting.

From what I have seen they look like they have sketchy fit and finish and are made from the lower end steels.
But most people who reviewed them are positive about them. But I wouldn't expect too much from 10 bucks knives.

It does say there made in the ukraine next to russia border. They do list metal used and hardness of blade. How accurate that is would be hard to say. For the price of some it wouldnt be far off the material used but it may lack in fit and finish. Knives now are being produced in quality or not all over. Just like guns. Glock, cz, xd, walther some good stuff can come from other places.

The lower end ones are certainly rebranded Chinese models. The more expensive knives are in a Russian style, and might be made there, but I'm leery.

I’d suggest staying away from that brand and look at some other, significantly more reputable brands in that general price range. Civivi, Stedemon ZKC, Aiorosu, Real Steel, and Ruike are all make some quality products that aren’t just re-branded knives they purchased in bulk like Grand Way is.*

Of the brands I listed, Ruike has the lowest average price point.

*For the sake of accuracy, I should note that Real Steel used to rebrand a handful of SanRenMu knives, but stopped many years ago.

In the 20 to 25 buck range:

Buck packlite
Mora companion
Buck small vantage
Crkt spew or even the minimalist

I would avoid them myself. Looks really terrible.

Amazon is now basically Ali express and it's horrible for knives now.

How about a Gerber EAB? They are only $7 and a useful little tool.

Great Scagels ghost KooKoo!!! In addition to the preferences for the Dewalt TSTAKS, Milwaukee Fastback (with the same "Milwakee" misspelling!), Byrd Finch, and Gerber folding fillet knives that you and the member panoz77 share, which I detailed in this post:

https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/fillet-knife-suggestions.1625635/page-3#post-18613734

you are both into the Gerber EAB!!!

I use my Gerber EAB a lot. I also really like the Milwakee Fastback utility knives/box cutters. That fastback action is really handy and the prices are so cheap, why not pick one up? They have two models of fastback utility knives a smaller version and a larger one that stores extra blades.

Seriously! You need to get in touch with the guy!!! Crazy stuff! It's like you are the same person!!!
