Granite countertops care?

We had new granite countertops installed. They really didn’t tell us much other than to “leave them alone for a couple days”. Do I need to buy the expensive granite cleaners, or does good old soapy water work??

Thanks.

Not exactly sure, just going off what the installer told me 9 1/2 years ago when I renovated my kitchen. I was hoping to go to Lowes a find a bottle of “Granite Countertop Sealer” one day pretty soon.

We were looking at the hundreds of products available! It’s overwhelming. That’s why I asked. I hate to ruin our new, beautiful countertops.

Well you have 6 months left then.

We had some new Black Pearl installed a year ago. The installer put on a sealer that they said was good for 5 years, rather than the 1 year for sealers that you buy in stores. It left a waxy feeling coating on the granite that was very hard to buff off with towels. The granite looks good and in 3 years or so I'll have to start looking at products available to re-seal it. I'm going to start by calling local stores that sell granite, we have a lot of them around here.

Granite Gold - they make a cleaner as well as a sealer. Sealed our countertops a few months ago. They look good and cleaning them is much easier.

I've heard certain foods (acids?) can etch them..... Be careful lemon juice, etc.
