Anyone know of a good green laser pointer? Preferably with a metal body, greater that 5mW, something pretty tough as it'll be used tactically.

Thanks in advance

leadlight 105's You can find them on ebay for about $50 (careful on ebay though.. many times they sell 110's disguised as 105's which cant be safely modified)

They're 5mw but VERY easily modable to around 30mw (without damaging them)

They're sturdy and look better than any other lasers i've seen.

I have 3. 1 is unopened in box

Thanks for the Info guys.... Checking out Wicked Lasers even as I type. Their products are really impressive.

EsthetiX, drop me an email... berdar@gmail.com, We'll see what we can do about that Laser of your.

Thanks again guys, Berdar

Interesting. How is the output changed? I assume changing a resistor or something?

Yup there's a variable resistor under the power button. You just pop it off and twist the resistor with a tiny tiny non-conductive screwdriver and pop the button back on. Thats the level one mod. There are 2 or 3 more levels of modding I haven't tried yet. The gain I got from the "pot mod" as they call it was enough to satisfy me. :) I've seen many claims of people getting up to 80mw out of these things! Of course anything above 40 would probably quickly fry the diodes.

... and unsuspecting victim's retina when it's used "tactically" on them. There is a good reason (besides the longetivity) why laser pointers have relatively low output. They perform just fine with default output, when serving their main "tactical" use - pointing at things during a lecture or a presentation.

yeh.. a friend and I were up on the roof shining my modded 5mw leadlight at some houses a couple miles away. They called the cops out. Then we began shining at their car. Not the brightest Idea (no pun intended). Point is a quality 5mw laser if prenty enough! I dont understand why you would need brighter.. So you can point out stars better? iunno Fun stuff.

I have just seen some that were in the 200mW range. Above 5mW, I believe they need an aperture shutter, key lock, and 2 second delay on start up.

So how much output is there on the ones that can pop balloons and such?

!50+ mW will easily light a match and pop ballons. I'm not sue what the lowest wattage is to get those results. Candlepower forums has a great laser section.

from like one inch away... AND the balloon has to be black or have a sharpie mark on it from what I understand. Kind of pointless IMO

I saw some guy light a cigar with a laser.. It took like a year to do it but he did it. LOL

yah like in the link in the second post here.

a good 200mw is like 800 dollars (at least)

I'm about to make my third trip to the sandbox. Lasers are commonly used in Iraq for signaling, to point out danger areas and probably most importantly as a method to warn the Local Nationals to stop or clear an area....

In my opinion..... the brighter the better.

I've been into lasers for as long as I can remember. I've made 4 lasers from scratch in the past and bought a helium neon one back in high school. I used to make holograms with that one. I had a 4' x 8' isolation table made of concrete floating on inner tubes. (doesn't everyone?) :) I have a 130 watt CO2 laser now and used to work on a 1500 watt CO2 laser that cut 8 bike tubes at once. You can never have too many lasers. :D

Oh.. well I meant for every day civilian use. My bad LOL :)

Try Wicked lasers, if your looking for a laser pointer. They're not cheap, but they are of very good quality.

I assume you have purchased one of their lasers, if so, do they have a source in the U.S. or must you send to China for one.
I would contact them but no ph # or e-mail that I could locate, just a street address.
Thank you sir

how much practical power does the 130w co2 laser pump out?
could you like, for example, torch the house of someone you really hate? ;)

It would certainly do that with the right lenses. They take a special lens (zinc selenide) that works in the infrared though so it's not that easy. I can't quite melt metal, but I can selectively harden steel or titanium. I developed a technique for doing a three dimensional surface texture on my titanium rings that uses it.
