Got this blank and stuck a Texas Mesquite burl handle, black spacers with nickle silver Corby rivets. nothing fancy, just a good skinning knife, includes minimal oil tanned leather, double stitched, riveted sheath, USPS priority shipping with ins. TYD for 50.00

Sorry, can't say what steel it is other than its a Russel Green River blade. I have one I use in the kitchen and it does a good job for me. As far as the heat treat, it comes treated, but no info as to hardness. Check that name out on the net, then let me know if you still want it.
 
These are 1095 flat ground. They take a keen razor edge and hold it great !

Thanks for the input. Any idea about the hardness? I don't have a tester, so I can't say.
 
I sent one to a very experienced knife maker and one of the Russell ss blades. He told me the carbon was harder if I had to guess I'd say 58 - 59
 
That's good info, hope you don't mind if I use what you have told me. I have a few more of these blanks I want to handle and sell. Not making a "profit" on them, but learning with each one I put wood on.
 
No problem. I've used them, they cut great, they take and hold a good edge and easily maintained. The blades are made in Southbridge Mass. by Dexter knife Co. witch is the biggest cutlery Co. in the world.
