Hey guys, quick question. I just received, literally, a new Rask direct from Grimsmo. The knife has a distinct "rattle" in the closed position. If I shake it, it sounds like its coming from the pivot area. I haven't taken the knife apart, just tightened the pivot. The knife doesn't rattle when the blade is deployed. Seems odd for this to be, on a knife this expensive out of the box. I emailed them as well, but haven't heard back yet.

Thanks in advance.

Just like with electronics, take it apart and put it back together!

Sounds like it might be a loose stop pin? Though it’s not something one should need to do for such an expensive knife, but applying some blue Loctite to where it inserts into the scale should get rid of the rattle (I’ve never owned one, so this is assuming the pin is sandwiched between the scales).

There shouldn’t be any rattle at all. Just tested mine and zero rattle in any position

Thanks guys for the info guys. I do want to hear back from them before I start messing with it.

The rask has 2 stop pins. One in the open position, one closed. You probably have something going on with the detent or that pin is my guess

I'm watching this video now lol. I guess i'm just annoyed that I have to take a brand new 1100$ knife apart

I have a separate silly question: The card that came with the knife says completed 2/28/25 but the knife is stamped on the inside of the handle as December 2024.

Is that odd? Wondering now if I got a returned knife or something. Seems odd they would sit on building this for 2 + months before completing it.

Completely agree with you that you shouldn’t have to take apart a brand new $1100 knife to fix anything. Overall I believe they put out great knives with consistency. It is certainly possible that you got one that wasn’t perfect out of the box, no company is perfect, but it still sucks that you may have got the rare one that wasn’t perfect out of the box.

For what it’s worth, I’ve been carrying mine off and on for about 2 years now and it’s just as perfect with action and lockup as it was the day I got it. It’s a dark horse in my collection that I think is one of the most underrated knives out there. Super thin overall, lightweight, great blade size and shape, GREAT action.

Not odd on the dates.

I wonder if the stop pin is rattling.

You can reach out to them and ask, but ultimately as others have said it’s a dead simple knife to disassemble and clean. I’d add a dab of lube to the stop pins where they interface with the scales if they do have any play.

I'd be annoyed too.....for that kinda money......

For $1100, I’d expect them to at least give it a shake or two before boxing it up. I’d expect that on stuff that costs well under that amount. Don’t settle.

certainly shouldn't have to apply grease or loctite whatever, etc, to a stop pin that fits loose enough to rattle, if that's the rattle. I get tolerances loose to allow for that on a low dollar production type knife....but not a 1100 one. I wouldn't be happy, but things happen. if they took it back and fixed it, I'd be fine.

Yep. Everyone can have a lemon slip by them. It shouldn’t happen, but humans are fallible.

how loud of a rattle, i just took out my two and if I shake them next to my ear there is a very slight rattle noise when they are closed, I am talking very slight only heard very close to my ear and then only when shook by the flat side. Honestly I never heard this until you mentioned it and it was right next to my ear, held in only one direction closed. Seems like nothing to me.

Mine came absolutely perfect in all respects. It’s as smooth as my 25 year old Seneza. Zero rattle.

I would do as others said. Take it apart and reassemble. Contact Grimsmo if there is a continued issue.
