I was just flipping through the Grizzly catalog and saw their 14" 1hp bandsaw priced at $325.00 plus $42.00 shipping. That's quite a lot cheaper than the 14" Ridgid at Home Depot or the 14" Delta at Lowe's. Has anyone had any experiences with these machines, good or bad?-Guy T.

I have the Grizzly bandsaw, tablesaw and jointer. They have served me well for the past 10 years. The setups are a little more tedious than normal, but once set they just keep running and running and....

silent, are you using this for wood or metal? remember steel requires a speed of 100-200 fpm. if your using it for wood, go for ridgid or delta. with these two you can buy accesories for the saw, to upgrade it. ex. better guides, table incerts, ect.
my ridgid is extremely accurate, but they don't come out of the box like that, you need to tune them up, that goes for all bandsaws.

I should have specified wood working only, though I like some of the things I've heard on the forum about friction cutting steel on 3000 fpm saws. I like the Ridgid which is also cheaper than the Delta and I can buy the accesories like rip fences and extension blocks right at Home Depot also. Since the Ridgid is right at $500.00 the Grizzly looks very inviting.
Oz, the Grizzly metal cutting bandsaw you referred to is the subject of many recent threads, and the general consensus seems to be quite favorable for profiling blanks and even for cutting wood, though apparently from what most have posted it doesn't do wood well or accurately, probably to be expected on a saw of that type. Harbor Freight sells the identical saw cheaper with I believe no shipping charge!
Thanks for responding all!-Guy T.

good choice, go with the ridgid. call carter products and buy carter ball bearing guides for the saw, they run about $150. and buy a book called "the bandsaw handbook" by mark duginske. it tels you how to make your bandsaw so that you can cut extremely accuately. mine cuts absolutely perfectly, it'll cut as straight as and circular saw, and is less dangerous becuase it's a bandsaw!
