Just checking tp see if anyone here has a 6 x 12 surface grinder from grizzly and if so what do you think of it. Would you buy one again or buy something else?

Thank you,

Bill

Bill, a friend on mine has one and loves it. I have an old US made 6x12 that I like better
but will probably get a Grizzly to run a belt on at some point.

I'm not a machinist but I bought one early this year and it works real well for me. I could have bought a used older unit for less money but didn't know enough to tell if they were in good condition or worn out. Another benifit was the grizzly was 110v single phase.

Yesterday a friend of mine who supplies Grizzly told us about the founder of the company. He's a very interesting man and runs his company very well .An unusual and real entreprenuer !
Grizzlys are known for being excellent value .Much of their equipment is made specifically for them to Grizzly design and by companies that work exclusively for them with Grizzly people on site.

It is the same grinder that Harbor Freight sells, they are all made in China and then the badging and color is put on them. They are very good for making things flat and parallel when making folders. I've been using one for over 10 years.

Might look the same as a HF but Grizzly is better. Read what Mete just wrote. The Chinese Companys' can build the same machine at different price points, which effects quality. HF is at the bottom.

Thanks guys I appreciate the help/info.

Don I've been calling every machine shop around here and in Springfield, done tons of searchs on the net and all the good used ones I've found so far are 500 + miles away, I'd like to have an older US made machine and know there's got to be one within 200 miles if I can just track it down, I'll keep searching but might opt for that grizzly if nothing shows up soon. If you hear of a good one forsale, let me know.

Thank you,

Bill

Bill, I'll let you know if I run across one. I found mine in Rolla about 11-12 years ago for $700. I would not have a problem with a Grizzly if I needed one right now. Grizzly also stocks parts for their machines and has very good customer service.

Those small surface grinders are not all created equal. I have a Harbor Freight model. A friend of mine bought an Enco. The Enco has a type of ball bearing that the table runs back and forth on. The HF model does not have this feature.
The Enco makes a much smoother cut than the HF.
Before I bought another one, I would want to know what the table rides on.

Hey Bill,

If I am not mistaken, Harry and Charley Matthews (TwinBlades) have a Grizzly unit that they converted to a belt machine. You might want to contact them.

I think they really like theirs.

Robert
