PS - Tony, that is a fine looking knife, I am anxiously awaiting mine. Though I know shipping will take weeeeeeeks. WEEEEEKS. Maybe I should upgrade all my orders to priority, though it would cost a lot more than another knife to do so. No, I will wait and live vicariously through pics.

I'm just calling out the complainers Casino. The whining here has passed the level of reasonable, and the level of appreciation I've received privately for my post indicates there's a strong desire here to take back our happy little family from the trolls. We welcome all comers to either be one of us or not. But the personal attacks against Ellie and the belabored rhetoric are not welcomed here, nor are the people who sling it.

I commended Mora and Esee at their price point above. Make sure to read me in context, please. I was making the point that the whining is not coming from guys who have any history here. I also mentioned I have many knives from each of the above mentioned companies. I actually enjoy them very much for the value they offer... but this is apples and oranges, because nobody would think of preordering an Esee. They're a quality production knife, and not in the same league.

The problem here is with expectations. There seems to be a breed of individual who expects their Survive Knife on their own terms. Companies like Mora and Esee are better suited for these individuals.

Everyone is welcomed here. And I will speak for the rest of us by saying there is a level of decorum and respect expected. If there are those who cannot behave themselves... they're encouraged to go... far, far away.

I listed my preorders. Other than those, I have only ever received one knife directly from Survive due to lack of supply, poor timing on my part, etc. I've been fortunate to receive more than my share. Part of that was due to other factors, but MUCH OF IT was due to being well networked with the quality guys on this forum who've tipped me off to sales, arranged trades for me, etc. There is a small minority of guys trolling the forums who are pariah and cannot expect anyone to look out for them. But they've made it clear they are not here for friendship, and 110% of my comments are directed at them.

To all, we don't care where you come from. We are glad you're here. We don't insist you sell your soul, nor do we expect you to swear allegiance to Survive. They don't have to become your favorite knives. But as long as you're here... be nice. If you cannot, move on.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled 4.7 feed. If you have one, show it off. Allow us to live vicariously through you until we are fortunate enough to have our own.

The whining here has passed the level of reasonable,

Actually, what's unreasonable is people who wake up at 6 AM every day to pay for a $200+ knife being told that it's unreasonable to complain when delays are going on this long and someone posts they are taking a week off because a friend is coming to town. Look, most of us are emphatic to funerals and grandmother situations, but not many of us get to take one week off to deal with any of those situations let alone three. I'm glad as business owners they are blessed with the ability to do so. I hope it's a lovely week with her friend, but customers are going to be miffed. It's a blessing for them to receive our money not the other way around. Yeah, things shouldn't get personal, but it's not the customers who are at fault here.

Do you need help finding the door?

I don't need to find the door. I'm not attacking anyone. It's business.

Do you need help finding the door, or can you figure it out on your own? [emoji6]

Fuori,

I empathize with your frustration and hope the week you mention is more to do with Ellie than Guy. What do you have ordered and when did you order it?

I hope they both enjoy the time off after what appears to be two hard weeks prior to it. I'm not happy about it, but I don't personally feel the need to vent about the length of time because it won't make it come any quicker in the mail, but if others feel they need to it's their right. The same as it's their right to close the shop, but people are going to be upset. My post was mostly towards FD. I don't want to hear that other customers need to basically shut up and be thankful for the right spend money. Will I buy more in the future? Yes, unless it's a preorder ;)

I'm just wondering where you are in the que. I imagine you can't be too far out regardless.

Don't worry about Forte. He probably didn't even read and understand your whole post. He's complaining people are complaining and personally attacking people for what he perceives as personal attacks and somehow the hypocrisy is lost on him.

I agree it is their perogative to take time off and I am sure they understand there can be consequences for the delays. Guy is committed to his standards and if the delays get too long I'm sure he knows some people will cancel. No problem with that.

I also understand your perspective. I work hard for my money as well. I'm up at 5 and have not had an uninterrupted sleep in over two years, since my son was born. I've never had a week off work for even a death in the family. I also don't find the work life balance at all and also have trouble remembering not everyone can or will work as much as me so I need to accept that. I don't take weekends off either.

I think you are best to let some steam off here and accept the current delay stoically as many others are and alter your plans for future orders accordingly. You are not alone in your frustration and we hear you.

Edit: I have I believe 6 preorders so I have some skin in the game as well.

I don't think anyone would say they are happy about the length of time, but the older I get the faster it moves...especially in the summer. After Memorial Day we are going to blink and it will be Labor Day.

My work and family commitment schedule has made it very difficult for me to be active here. I am catching up a little over this long weekend. I have to say that I too am getting tired of hearing the complaints about the delays and slippage of estimated delivery times. This is just the way it is with this business model. It was this way when Survive was operating out of Gettysburg, and Guy had abandoned the preorder model altogether because of it. When he brought it back after the move to ID, he did so to ultimately finance equipment so that he had more control over more of his processes, hopefully to improve the situation with the supply side. But the demand side continues to grow as well. I have not been able to take advantage of a Monday sales thread, but it is Survive!'s attempt to make things better. I have three knives on preorder myself, and I don't like having to wait for them. But my complaining here does not make them ship any sooner. If you can no longer accept the constant shift to the right on your pre ordered knife, then work with Survive! to cancel your order and get a refund. Over the past three years, I have heard of every argument possible for and against the preorder situation at Survive! It is what it is. The knives are of iimpeccable quality at a very good price point. But you will have to wait for it. Now let's get back to talking about the knives.

I have on order a 4.7 in Cru Forge V. It was sort of an impulse buy as it was a limited wait to try this design out. I am not a fan of coated blades of any kind as I thin the blade with repeated sharpening to keep the cutting geometry optimal, but I did want to compare this to my GSO 5. I also have not been able to try the new handle geometry yet. I am looking forward to taking this knife for a spin and comparing it to both my old style GSO 5 and 5.1 knives.

You do realize that if nobody calls out the complainers, this forum would be filled with them, right? Most everyone else would eventually leave.

As far as hypocrisy goes, didn't you just attack Forte, naming his personal attacks on others as the reason? Believe it or not, calling someone a hypocrite is rather personal.

I don't care if people want to complain, but most of us are rather tired of hearing it. There's nothing wrong with pointing that out.

Edit: if you want to complain, at least start a new thread, so we don't go so far off topic. For instance, this thread is dead. If there were a mod, they would certainly close it.

Points well taken McV!!

Re the new 4.7, In general I don't like coatings either but my 4.7 cuts like butter. The blade geo is damn near perfect for cutting and slicing and the coating doesn't seem to add drag, at least so far. It's a different knife then the 5. The 4.7 has a shorter blade (spine to edge), it has a shorter blade length, has a different tip/blade point and the handle and scales are completely different. It also feels a little lighter than the 5. I really like it. I don't know if I am going to sell my 5s but I think the 4.7 is going to get more use use than my 5s. Would love to hear your feedback when you get it.

I didn't think he attacked me at all and I didn't attack anyone personally. I directed a few replies towards Forte, but that doesn't make it a personal attack.

Well said sir-----well said.

I just don't understand why all the drama and back and forth... What is the point in complaining on either side of the coin? If your not a moderator, telling someone to shut up (for whatever reason) on a public forum is flame and troll bait.
It's perfectly within your right and etiquette having paid up front beyond a year to ask for periodic updates on time estimates. Beyond that though, it's complaining. And open ended complaining should be done in private shouldn't it?
If you ask, can't/don't get a response and feel you are being treated unfair with lead times or can't accept it... then Rather then complain, just ask for a refund or sell your spot (if that's allowable)..

and that's about it..

BTW, 4.7 is worth a years wait IMO. It's (that) good. I'll bet there a number of people here that would be happy to take your que slot off your hands.. and I'll be using mine today for widdling hickory sticks for the BBQ :)

I don't think so. I think that if we resolve the complaint there will be no more complaints from that person. I doubt there would be a never ending stream of upset customers.

And no I didn't attack him. I pointed out what is happening. Please seperate the behaviour from the individual. At no point did I tell him to leave or anything similar. He's also frustrated and I understand that. I pointed out his behaviour is hypocritical, not that he is hypocritical. Again, not personal.

I do believe the delay complaints here are regarding the 4.7 so that should be considered on topic. I agree we could start a thread on how to resolve the issue of the small minority of people who are done waiting.

I don't know. We can't really resolve their complaint, unless you have piles of extra 4.7s lying about. Often, people who are complaining are looking for people to commiserate with, so they can all complain together. Do we really want this to be the place for that?

I think there isn't anything wrong with saying "Enough. Take your complaining elsewhere."

I wish I had a pile of 4.7s. I can't solve all the first world problems but I can try to help! [emoji4]

I think there are a couple resolutions as mentioned. Here is a constructive way to handle a common complaint. More constructive than telling them to beat it.

There is nothing wrong with telling someone enough, go away if that is your standard of customer service. However it's not consistent with the outstanding customer service Ellie provides and the welcoming atmosphere the MAJORITY of people in this forum want.

Anyways here is an example.

Person A "I'm tired of waiting for my knife!"

Person B "Do you still want your knife?"

Person A "Yes."

Person B "Cool, enjoy these awesome pics while you wait."

Person A "I don't want to wait, I want it now. It's been long enough."

Person B "Even if the Post man was walking to your house with your knife in hand you would have to wait SOME amount of time. Decide how long that can be and then revisit my first question."

Person A "I'm done waiting."

Person E "Here is your refund."
