Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Thank you, Jack. Hopefully, it didn't make for too dull a read.

This ale is a veritable meal.

My all-time favorite beer. Cheers!

Wow!! 16 years Jack- well done and a massive Thank you for ALL that you have done for so so many people.
Much respect my friend! :) ☝️

I like the stag. It's a bit thicker then i thought it would be. But i think it fills the hand. Very happy with it. It's my first time having stag covers aswell.
To a large extent, stag-cutting skills seem to have been lost in Sheffield (at one time time, they'd have been cut by specialist 'scale cutters'), but thick-cut stag can provide good ergonomics on a single-blade knife
Story time:
There was a small patch of strange, red-orange mold growing on the tile grout, which had evaded various efforts to eradicate. When it was my turn to try, I decided to pour bleach on it and let it sit a while, then scrape it. I sprinkled the bleach, but the bottle was just about empty, so I picked up the bottle of ammonia to finish covering. I shut the door and went into the common room to take a break, quite proud of myself, I declared, "I think this should work. I used bleach and ammonia!" Everyone over-reacted. Ran around yelling that the house should be evacuated, etc.

Two common household items, stored near each other and commonly used for the same purposes of cleaning and disinfecting, must not be used together. So I learned.

After opening windows and airing the place out with fans, I never had to clean bathrooms again. A win, I'd say. (although the mold didn't die. It just turned white for a while)
 😃

Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone is doing OK :) It's still wet and windy here, and I hope it clears up a bit for my weekly trip to the market tomorrow, or even before that, so I can make a bread run! Pocketing my 2018 Ebony Guardians SFO today :) Have a good day Guardians

Good morning Jack and Guardians too! Hope all is well with you and everyone. That's a nice photo of your Ebony SFO Lambsfoot. Hope the weather straightens out for you. Ours is about to get nasty out. Lots of stormy weather on the way. My previous post said that I was going out for golf...had my first hole in one yesterday morning.

Thank you Bill, I'm sorry to hear about the weather there, hope you all stay safe  Congratulations, that sounds like quite an achievement :) Great pic of your Hartshead Barlow

Congratulations Bill on your hole in one! How many drinks did you have to buy? 😊

My mother's father made these cardboard Santas. I'm going to try to repair them a bit this year. Decades of cellotape have done a little damage. Also, one of them is painted on one side only, for whatever reason if any. My painting can't be worse than no painting.

Incredible Jer, sure you'll do a good job  OTW is looking good

Addressing some posts that I think are all at least a week old - a memory test for us all! 🤓 ;)

Ah...., sunrise in “Bagdad By The Bay”. Looking forward to to a high of 65 degrees today. In the meantime I’m waiting for the coffee to finish brewing while preparing my cranberry nut bread for consumption. 😋

I liked that sunrise photo!:cool:
Also, belated congrats on your retirement!:thumbsup::) Was it difficult to make arrangements to stop in the middle of the school year?
The cranberry nut bread looks delicious; do you have that with a splash of Henderson's?? 🤓

Looking Good GT!!! Very nice hues of use coming on!
Thanks for the kind words, Duncan; much appreciated! :)

I have one with an offset handle that might be good if it were bent at the right height. I've put a rake handle into it, which helps.
My new shovel is one of those bent-handle ones as well, and the height seems about right. I bought it as a replacement for a shovel of a similar style that our neighbors gave us when they moved; it was rather well-used when they gave it to us, but it had an aluminum handle and a thin (rather soft) plastic scoop, so it was very lightweight and I liked it for throwing snow over a fence into the garden after I had pushed the snow into a big pile with a wider, heavier "pushing" shovel. My new one isn't quite as light as the old "throwing" shovel, but it still requires less energy per scoop to throw than the "big" shovel does.:cool:

...
Somehow we’ve lucked out on snow so far, which is good, because I still have more leaves to deal with. (It’s supposed to warm up briefly for a few days this week, so I’m waiting to deal with them until then.)

New condiments 😁, familiar Lambsfoot.
...
I picked up a lot of leaves the day before Thanksgiving and, after I had filled the yard waste cart that the city empties weekly, put the leaves into huge plastic bags that I put in the garage. I can now dump the contents of the bags into the cart whenever the cart gets emptied (until the yard waste pick-ups end their "season" (probably around Christmas), and then resume putting out any remaining leaves next spring when the city pick-up starts again (in April, I think)). Still have a lot of leaves to dig out of the flower gardens, the old dog kennel, and the bushes along the alley.

Looks like a sizzling hot quartet you've put together there, Barrett!:cool::thumbsup:

Evening Guardians
Great to see you posting one of your trademark delectable lambsfoot knives along with baked goods to make my mouth water, Harvey!:cool::thumbsup: I hope you have a delightful holiday season! 🤓

I think Spanish is the easiest to learn of the European languages, and arguably, the most pleasant to hear. As you know European Spanish (Castilian) is pronounced slightly differently, but it has consistent rules :) I haven't spoken any Spanish for about 15 years, and I worry it will go the way of the other languages I've acquired :( I tried speaking French the other day, and it was as rusty as the rest of me! :D

I think Mr Pastry was old when we were young Gary :) I remember finding his slapstick antics funny, but I would have been a very young child when I last saw him on the TV. I wasn't that impressed with the Beatles either! :D Your post reminded me of the time when I was in a junior school assembly, and the headmaster asked, "Who saw The High Chaparral last night?" Then reprimanded all those who put up their hands up for not being in bed at 9pm on a school night! :D

I thought you would have a system my friend ;)

That's good news :) I remember having to use my old ice axe last year! :D

Those are great pics Gary  :)

Your comments about languages ring true with me, Jack. I studied Latin in high school for 3 years and German in college for 2 years, and 50+ years later, after using neither very often, my vocabulary has shrunken dramatically, and my grammar is almost nonexistent. :(

Your juxtaposition of comments about the Beatles and about The High Chaparral TV show were a striking coincidence for me! 😲 I mentioned that my wife and I were planning to watch some of the new documentary on the Beatles over Thanksgiving weekend, almost all of it comprised of video footage shot during January 1969 as they tried to put together songs for the Let It Be album. (Many songs that showed up on Abbey Road also appeared in rudimentary form in the documentary.) One amazing scene had McCartney come in at the start of the day and start strumming his bass and humming and occasionally muttering "Get back", while Harrison and Starr sat in a not-yet-awake stupor, half-watching. Then, after a couple of minutes, all of a sudden the song started becoming recognizable, and Harrison and Ringo realized that Paul had something going. Ringo started clapping along, and Harrison started trying to play guitar to complement what McCartney was doing. Throughout the documentary there were various scenes where they continued to work on the song. At one point, Paul was trying to come up with a last name for Jo Jo in the song, and trying out "Jo Jo Jackson left his home in Arizona." Eventually they, decided to ditch the last name of Jo Jo and put in the name of a city along with the state. Paul suggested Tucson, Arizona and John asked if that city was actually in Arizona. Paul confidently replied, "Yes, that's where they make High Chaparral." Must have been a highly-regarded western in the UK at that time!

My new camera turned up last night. Not sure that 24 hours in the back of a cold van will have done the electronics any good, but I'm looking forward to giving it a go. Got some old skills to re-learn, and lots of new ones 😀 Starting my week with my trusty Hartshead Barlow :) Have a good week Guardians

EJJ7ONG.jpg
Congrats on the new camera, Jack!:thumbsup::thumbsup: Are you pleased with it so far?

I bought some old tree baubles last year, thinking they'd make good seasonal slingshot targets, but then realised I'd just get glass everywhere. I have a small fir tree out in the back garden, so maybe I'll adorn that with it :)
Could you hang your ornaments in some kind of cardboard "catchbox" meant to catch the glass upon impact?

Had to split my post.

Good Morning Guardians
I love Christmas time, it gives me many props for knife photos.
Very cool, John.
Your photo inspired me to look for some old lambsfoot holiday photos that I'll repost this month.

So far, the only side-effect of my booster shot as been an overwhelming craving for curry! I hadn't shopped for that, but I managed to cobble together a blisteringly-hot Covid-killing scorcher! Of course my daredevil Hartshead Barlow had to test his metal - possibly his most dangerous mission yet!

That's some very appealing curry your HHB is diving into, Jack!

Great pic Gary! Your girls certainly got you a very handsome Lamb in your Union Jack That book title certainly sounds familiar, but I have been an avid reader throughout my life, and I quickly forget novels, irrespective of their quality, I'm afraid
Thanks, Jack. While they were in York, I had sent them links to a couple of lambsfoot models, and asked that they try to find something similar for me; I was more than pleased with the results!
🤓

Reminds me of, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep"... which led to a couple of excellent Sci Fi movies.
...
John, I know that story was written by Philip K. Dick and made into the Bladerunner film, but I've neither read the story nor seen the entire movie (or its remake). I used to read a LOT of science fiction back in the 1970s, so I'm surprised that I've never actually read anything by Dick, although I've seen and enjoyed both Total Recall and Minority Report, based on Dick's writings.

I went with lighthouses again for next year.
...
Nice calendar!
Are those lighthouses from around the world, or the Western Hemisphere, or the Great Lakes, or Michigan, or ...?

Fun fact: You can reuse your favorite calendars. After all, there are only 14 possible versions.

Very cool link, Rachel!

We’ve had fairly mild weather here in Minnesota so far this fall/winter. My boots, which I wear daily this time of year, have been well overdue for a little TLC. I finally got around to it today. The Lambsfoot helped cut some new paracord laces.

Good-looking photo of your boots and lambsfoot, Barrett!

Does paracord make a more durable bootlace than the laces at the shoe store?

Great grain!!

Thank you for your congratulations. It was actually easy to retire when I did due to the fact that the district closed down my classroom due to only having one student. I could have gone to another school but I didn’t want to move all my stuff twice and I was going to retire at the end of year anyway. I love the Henderson’s but haven’t tried it on anything sweet yet.

Nice calendar!

Thanks. I looked at a Great Lakes lighthouse calendar, but there was one picture I knew would irritate me for a month. It looked like a beacon on a pier with nothing like a house attached.
I opened it up. Mostly Maine, a couple other east coasters, one Illinois, and three Michigans. We do have the longest coastline this side of the Pecos, after all.

The cover is Castle Hill in Rhode Island. Kind of nice, because I grew up across the street from another Castle Hill, and some of my early American ancestors came to Rhode Island.
