Will's hints allow us to rule out the use of 0s and 1s, and to restrict our attention to 3-digit numbers in which 2 of the digits match (unless Will is being tricky and counting 3 identical digits as an example of 2 digits matching). So we have 8 possibilities for what the matching digits are, and for each of those we have 7 choices for the non-matching digit, so that's 8x7 = 56 possibilities. But each of those has 3 possible orderings (xxy, xyx, yxx), so there are a total of 56x3 = 168 3-digit numbers that meet Will's requirements. As of the time I'm typing this, we've collectively guessed 29 of those combos (if I haven't missed any):
Containing two 2s: 223 227 262 322 622 722 822
Containing two 3s: 334 336
Containing two 4s: 442 443 454
Containing two 5s: 556 255
Containing two 6s: 669 696
Containing two 7s: 772 778 747 757 787 877
Containing two 8s: 882 828 858
Containing two 9s: 997 929 969 989

I'll do my usual 3 guesses for the day, going for palindromes containing 2 2s:
Wednesday Guess #1: 232
Wooden Wednesday European Knives from France and Portugal:

Maybe some knife and cigar photos will bring me luck.

How about 522?

Barrett, since you mentioned these events in this thread, I'll go off topic and wish you and your wife a Happy Anniversary, and wish everyone a Happy Pi Day (3.14 is today's date in American notation)!!:cool::D
(Students and faculty in my department are scheduled to celebrate the occasion with some pi(e) in about 22 minutes:

Thanks for keeping us updated on the qualifying numbers GT:thumbsup:

I didn't think about it when I posted this one earlier, but two of these knives traveled with me to England last summer, and both now reside in Europe. :D

I'll give it a couple more goes tonight.

Let's try 446.

And a knife photo I took today.
