I've learned that this is absolutely the best forum online for knives. What would you say is the best forum for gun info? I have two very old guns I need info on.

Okay, here we go. I'm getting this info for a friend who know absolutely nothing about computers, so I don't have the guns. These are the only photos I have, and, knowing nothing about guns, didn't know what to take pictures of. I did my best.

I know a little about the Starr, but anything you all can tell me would be awesome. I know absolutely nothing about the little single shot pistol.

Thanx everybody

try googling {underhammer pistols} in quotes. that should point you in the right direction since that is the general type of pistol you've got. be prepared to spend a little time. you might also find a copy of a book that has gun values in it along with a little history, the title begins with an F, sorry i can't remember it. good luck, cool guns.

The Starr appears to be a Model 1863 Single Action .44 Caliber Percussion Army Revolver. I don't see any martial marking in the photo so it was likely made for civilian sales. The North bought and issued these during the War of Northern Aggression. Many soldiers often bought their own as well. Depending on the conditions of the internals and if it is in working condition I would say the value could be at least 1500.00 and go up from there. I would have it appraised by an expert in Civil War era firearms.

you can read more here http://armscollectors.com/mgs/starr_revolvers_week_3.htm

you can also google Starr Model 1863 and find tons of info about this revolver.

As for the underhammer...are there any markings at all on it?

Thanks to everyone for your information. We have looked all over that underhammer and can't find any markings of any kind. It's a bit of a mystery. The underhammer has been look at by many people who know about guns from that era, but no one seems to know anything about it.

I've seen underhammer boot pistols like that in a museum (Old Sturbridge Village gunshop). It's rifled and has a screw-off barrel so you can load it from the breech, right? Slow to reload but it didn't matter; you'd reload it at your leisure after it was all over.

Wow... they even have a thread called "If Busse made Guns, what would be the VERY, VERY BEST Busse Tactical Combat gun?":D

If Busse made a handgun? I think it would be something like this...
