Let me try again.

Do Gurkha officiers (originally from Nepal) hold the same rank in other units of the British Army. For example, will a Captain (promoted from the ranks) in a Gurkha regiment be treated as a Captain by the Highlanders?

Sorry for the confussion, too many Gurkha's in one line.

Will --- I remember reading something like that in one of my books. If I find it, I will post it.

Will, according to the book "The Gurkhas," by Byron Farwell, "There is no equivalent for the Gurkha officer ranks in any other part of the British Army." Email me if you would like any additional info.

Now I understand. I am not sure what the present day deal is but I'll try to find out when I am in Nepal.

Our old Highlander pal might give us some info on how it was in the 50's in Malaya but he won't post so I'll have to email him or ask him the next time he calls.

Steven probably gave us the best answer we are going to find but that book is pretty old.

I think it was Farwell's book that mentioned a Nepali (possibly originally a Gurkha) finishing Sandhurst. He was commissioned as a regular officier.

I can't recall how regular Gurkha (Nepali) officier's rank would hold.
