Hi,
I've posted this question on one other forum. I'm not sure which is the best place to ask, but here goes. I am wondering if anyone has any information, and/or experience with Gustav Emil Ern knives out of Solingen Germany. I've used one that is probably 30 years old. I really like the feel of the knife as well as its ability to hold an incredibly sharp edge. I don't know which processes or alloys they used when that knife was made, nor whether they still use the same ones now. It doesn't appear to be stainless, but it could simply be that it is old. I've found a place that carries them, but I'd like an opinion other than the salesman's.

Hi,

I have only seen a few Ern knives here. Most were copies of traditional German patterns, and you usually see the Ern brand associated with razors.

Are the knives you seeing new, or old stock? My references state they were in business from 1873 -1986.

HTH:D:).

Thanks for the info. The knives I've used were probably made in the 70's. They are apparently still made, but perhaps they are under new ownership. That's really what I'm curious about. I'm wondering if they still make the knives the way they did 30 years ago. If they did, I'd like to buy one to see if I like it. If they don't, and all they are is another Henckels (sp?) clone, then I'm not really interested.
