Hair clippers? Where? Which one?

I have been looking at Oster clippers on-line. My thought is that Oster makes the best clippers available for a reasonable price (~$150US ;)).

I have been using the ~$20 models from Wal-mart for about 3 years and I am tired of replacing them and putting up with the weak cutting action - you know what I mean, yanking hair out and not cutting it  What I have discovered is that I must wash my hair very clean and then dry it completely or the cheap clippers will not have enough power to cut or they will yank the hair. While I do not think it is unreasonable to wash my hair and dry it completely before cutting it, I would like some clippers with enough guts (i.e. power) and good enough blades to cut the hair while wet or slightly dirty (washed in the morning and cut in the afternoon without sweating heavily during the day).

The Oster 76 seems to be the clipper most sites rate as their best "Pro" quality clipper. Oster makes several others that I cannot differentiate from the Model 76. Also, I need a little help in understanding what the blade sizes do for me and how this works with the guards. The basic "kit" seems to come with two blades and I would need to order a set of guards. Online this would run me about $140 from the places I have shopped. What am I missing? What else should I be looking for or looking at?

Also, I typically use a #2 guard all over in the summer and a #3 in the cooler part of the year with a shaver to get the fuzz on the back of my neck that the clippers miss.

Thanks!

Sid I have been using the cheap Oster clippers for about 10 years. I cut my hair about every 7-14 days. I have found that if I keep the blades lubed it works great. You can go to a beauty supply store and get either an spray lube or a tube of oil. Mineral oil has worked well as a lube.
I know that I didn't answer your questions but hopefully I gave you an alternative.
Good luck.

My Wahl lasted for 10 years. It finally died due to the not quite right Japanese voltage out here. I replaced my clippers with a Conair, which has an adjustable "power screw" that fine tunes it to whatever messed up foreign outlet its plugged into. I still go to the barber when I'd rather have someone else do all the work.
