Need the Blade forums help finding a handle for the 5.5 pound Husqvarna splitting maul my local dealer says they don’t list a replacement 32 inch handle. Has anyone replaced one before? The top side of my eye is 2.25x 1.03 inches. The handle is straight with a flare at the bottom. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I see one on eBay but between the price and shipping it’s nearly as much as a new maul. I’ve used

GEDORE OX E-85 E-0850

on European style maul heads before. the eye is large D shaped. Takes a long time to fit because there’s so much wood.

The one on eBay is a 30 inch handle not sure the eye is the same the heads are different I know that

That's the problem with lots of these foreign made tools. Pick handles will probably give you enough wood to make it fit but you will end up on a 36" haft.
If it was mine and liked it on the shorter haft I would probably just resign myself to making one from scratch. If you don't want to shop around for a specialty lumber dealer wheelbarrow and walking plow handles are usually available in most areas is an option.

It's worth noting that with a pick handle you don't necessarily have to end up with a 36" handle if you want it shorter. Not only can you shorten it a few inches from the working end during the hafting process but depending on how thick it starts off you may be able to form a decent knob higher up from the butt end or can form the end as a tenon to slot into a mortised and glued-on block to form a new knob from. A little more work but not too difficult.
