Handles and Sheaths

I’m a novice with FF and haven’t yet learned all the nuances. I noticed today the leather sheath either removed some dye, left some residue or simply pulled the oil out of the wood. Has anyone else noticed this and if so can you give me some tips to either prevent or restore the color of the handle? Thanks.

the leather will absorb the oils from the scales. Also, woods like osage will darken with use and exposure to UV rays.
