EDIT: I guess the hole is for hanging it up in the shed?

Pasta server. :D

I've honestly been wondering the same thing. I'm sure someone on here knows, but it sure isn't me!

I'm going to guess that the hook or slot is for grabbing pot bails when pots are on the camp fire.

The hole.... maybe for stripping bark off of small branches or de-thorning sticky branches?

^ I "think" so too. An attempt to add to its utility, especially for small, thin branches and shrubbery.

The hole for stripping bark, small branches/nettles which could also serve the same for the hook to yank small twigs/branches as well and pick-up things like pots.

You're a genius! Such a simple concept but it never crossed my mind...:o

bladerique, I have two very old (60's) "corn knives" from my father & both have the holes in the ends. The holes in these knives were made to hang tjem on nails/screws/bolts in the barn or shed. Cramsey 3006 is correct about the slot.
Be safe.

Blah! Someone beat me to it. I was going to say it looks like a hole to hang it from. Thats what I would use it for at least.

If the slot is for lifting a pot off a fire, then I think the hole isn't just for hanging. If the pot is heavy you could put a stick through the hole to use as a second handle to fight the leverage.

I think that the hole is there for purpose other than hanging. I may be wrong... If I was going to put a hole in the blade for hanging it, I wouldn't make it so large.

The hole isn't just for hanging, otherwise, all other machetes would've had that similar feature, plus it wouldn't be THAT big or wide.

I know that Hansa's CEO is a member on here--his screen name is HansaQuito. I haven't seen him on in a while, but maybe if we're lucky he'll notice this thread and chime in. :o

I love the pot idea, but the lever action would make it a bit uncomfortable to do from the handle, and if you sharpen it well very uncomfortable from the blade.
Hole: Basically just hanging it up.
Hook: For picking fruit, pulling and breaking small branches.
This is not too much of a working knife its a bit of a gimmick and is very popular with tourists.

There we go! Knew you'd surface to comment. Thanks for the insight! :D:thumbup:
