10 November is marks the 234th birthday of the United States Marine Corps (Ooh Rah!). In honor of our devil dogs, a few quotes that describe them best:

The deadliest weapon in the world is a Marine and his rifle!
—General John J. “Black Jack” Pershing, USA

…Since 1775 the United States Marines have upheld a fine tradition of service to their country. They are doing so today. I am confident they will continue to do so.
—President Franklin D. Roosevelt

Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference. The Marines don't have that problem.
—President Ronald Reagan

Panic sweeps my men when they are facing the American Marines.
—Captured North Korean Major

I love the Corps for those intangible possessions that cannot be issued: pride, honor, integrity, and being able to carry on the traditions for generations of warriors past.
—Cpl. Jeff Sornig, USMC

Courage is endurance for one moment more…
—Unknown Marine Second Lieutenant in Vietnam

The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!
—Eleanor Roosevelt

From the Halls of Montezuma,
To the shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country’s battles,
In the air, on land, and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
Of United States Marine...
—Marine Corps Hymn

Thank you, soldiers, sailors, airman and Marines , who tirelessly protect our nation’s freedom at home and abroad.

(cut and paste from an email sent to me by an old friend. USMC)

Thank you!

My favorite is the Elanor Roosevelt quote.

Semper Fi, and Hoo-Rah to my Brothers...

I'll have to say my favorite quote has always been the President Reagan quote but, someone on here has a signature line something like the only people who know Marines are people who have met them in battle. That's a pretty good one too.

I used to work for a SgtMaj who was fond of saying " The most ordinary Marine is still and Extraordinary human being."

Semper Fi to all my Brothers and Sisters, remember Steak, Lobster Tail and Birthday cake at the chow hall tonight.

Thanks Boomstick.....and Happy Birthday to my Brothers.

This is one of my favorites....

Gone to Florida to fight the Indians. Will be back when the war is over. - Colonel Commandant Archibald Henderson in a note pinned to his office door, 1836 (He was a Marine for 53 years and Commandant for 39 of those)

Echo, I used to have that sig line. It goes There are only two kinds of people that understand Marines: Marines and those who have met them in battle. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion. The author is unknown though some sites attribute it to an Army General.

Happy B-Day Devil Dogs!

Happy Birthday Marines!! Thank you for what you have done, will do and are doing. God bless each and every one of you!

Happy B-Day my fellow brothers-in-arms! My favorite quote was from Major General Chesty Puller, USMC - while on a Battalion inspection:

"Take me to the Brig. I want to see the "real Marines". "

From all the Marines I know...this is so true:D

Happy B-day to all my brother devil dogs! My favorite quote is the President Reagan one. He was and always will be my Commander in chief.

Happy B=day Marines.

Semper Fi. I have never known any finer men than those I served with in the Corps.

The Ealenor Roosevelt quote is funny. She also proposed confining all the Marines returning from the war to an Island for the rest of their live for they were "too dangerous and wild to be returned to normal society".

I'd like to thank all of you for your service. Without you guys nothing would be the same :thumbup:

I don't know why I always end up getting all choked up on November 10th: happens every year, without fail. Maybe it's because, at one time, the Corps was my life — as it was for my father, and his father before him.

There is something about being a Marine that is indefinable, and can't really be explained to anyone who wasn't. You can try, of course, but you'll fail, because those who were never Marines have no frame of reference; they haven't been through what you've been through. There is something shared between Marines that simply can't be explained to anyone else. It's more than just the 234 years of tradition and service, it's the common bond that has existed between Marines for all that length of time. If I meet a Marine from WW 2, or one that has only been in our Corps for a short while, we have a shared bond, something we understand without it needing to be said. How do you explain pride?

God, I love my Corps. Special wishes to all my brothers and sister who have served, or are serving, our nation on our 234th birthday.

Semper Fi.

If you added a lot of women and knives - it would be called Awesome Island.
