Hey guys. Just wondering if any of you have used the Lifetime Diamond (I believe that's the brand, they may sell it under another name too) hone from HF.

I've got two of them. One that I've used for years, and another that I bought a couple of months ago. At first they are very coarse, but even out quickly and I've found them to be a pretty good tool.

I'd like to know how they compare to premium products like DMT hones. Like I said I get really pretty good results so I'm wondering if it's worth the outlay of cash to buy the premium stuff.

As a side, I looked at the diamond plates that they sell (same brand) and it looked like they weren't flat at all. They all looked concave though, so I'm wondering if any of you know if they are and that they just look that way in the packaging. I'm pretty sure they fit in the edge pro holder so that would be a very good deal compared to the DMT 6" plates, not to mention that they are very lightweight.

Thanks as always.

I have the Harbor Freight 4-sided block that looks like a cheese grater. The diamond panels are not flat, but it still works fine for our kitchen knives and it's also great for putting a bevel on thicker knives.

I have the harbor freight plates, and yes, they are quite curved. I fixed them with a c clamp and two pieces of wood. The diamond surface on them though is pretty consistent considering the price. I'll use them instead of my xc/c dmt stones then go to the f/ef dmt's. It's a good way to save money and the fine stone will remove the the irregular scratch pattern you may get with the inconsistent grit from the HF stones with out a problem. Also, this may be getting old for some, but the quality on the dmt stones i have been getting is way below what they are charging for them, so on a somewhat selfish suggestion, you should get some eze-laps and let us know how they work
