hello
I have martin MCE II and I am having the darndest time trying get it sharp and keep it sharp next step is the belt grinder I don't want to its just maddening
how in the world do you get and keep a hair popping edge. I am using arkansas stones and light weight motorcycle oil. and I have an old two sided stone form my FIL works great on folders but the bigger blades are troublesome
thank you charles

It's not that the steel is too hard, it's because you're most likely not forming a burr due to not hitting the edge, CPM 154cm should work fine on arkansas stones....

Diamond stones are the answer.
how's your technique? Poor technique and a diamond stone is just going to remove a lot of metal. Do the sharpie marker on the edge trick and see if you are hitting the edge. Scan through some of the posts for sharpening tips, there are a bunch mixed in between the boasts of scary sharpening skills, but hey at least we're not batoning :D

I would check out the paper wheels. I think they do a better job than a belt sander.
