I'm interested in hearing about (and pics if you have them) Scarce/Rare/Hard-To-Find Buck 110 tang stamps. You decide what qualifies for S/R/HTF. Most know about the 2013/14 "Anvil50" No-Buck, but not really HTF with ~40,000 in all variations of handles. So, I'll start off with a 2002/3 transition. From what I gather, maybe 12,000 were made and 1,000 were released. Sound right?

I've not seen one with the 'T' stamp on the back.
To me a 2 line stamp on a 110 or any Buck is hard to find. The Buck* (asterik) stamp is harder. DM

Here's a couple I quickly found.
First picture is a second version.

Next picture is from 1967.

Will look for more tomorrow and try to post then.

These aren't really hard to find, but look for different font sizes.

Here are a couple to go with Stumps'. Horizontal "BUCK", one right and one left.

How quick was quick? ha ha

I think I've seen two of each of those on the auction site in about a year. Those are very very nice 110's.

Here is a modern 110 that I guess is scarce or hard to find.
A single dash 110FG from 1992

Here's a few more.
This is one marked with the "T" on the pile side tang.

This might be my favorite of all I have.
It got through Buck's factory with no tang stamp at all.
I picked this one up a few years ago from a premier Buck collector....Dick Matheny.

A 2002 tang stamp that is also used sometimes with custom knives.

So that brings me to a slightly "off topic" question...how many 110's does Buck make during a typical month? Do they release 110 sales numbers?

Here is an inverted three liner that is rare to find.

A couple first version 110s with a stamped blade.

Any idea how many "1992-" were sold compared to the "-1992-"?

It is my understanding that they all were a single dash. There was something wrong with the grind of the chole area and Buck would fix them then add the second dash. They probably fixed the issue in house then added the double dash to remaining production. I do not know if productions numbers are this specific in the BCCI archives and I don't have time to look right now.

I have to say it again, those are some real nice horizontal stampers. I enjoy seeing them. These are right up there with Teflon Nemos and serrated 121's for me. Oh, that dot stamp is very nice too. Only made part of the year in 1967, iirc.

Where did this understanding come from? Can you provide a reference? As I can for mine. DM

This double dash stamp issue comes up frequently here and I merely thought we had given ample information on this to settle it. Using the search feature would provide the reference. DM

Ok, some have found the search feature here to be fickle at times... I hope you're a Buck Collectors member as this would open windows of Buck history for you.
In the Buck Collectors newsletter dated June 2006 there is an article in 'TIDBITS' which gives details about this stamp. "A memo from Buck Senior Manufacturing Engineer Bill Keys (a intelligent and long term employee) dated Dec. 5, 1991 addressed the issue:"
"The ECR (engineering change request) for the 110 blade and rocker redesign has been approved.
To assist Consumer Relations in differentiation between new design and old design knives produced in 1992, a change in the stamp will be made; ...The spring holder to be used with the new design will be determined in '92 after additional testing on new design production part..."
In summary, Buck made a slight change in the spring holder and wanted to make that change evident for any warranty repairs that customer relations employees would be addressing. This change in the spring holder did not affect the blade or rocker bar design. They were stamped with a double dash early on. DM

Stumps I find it interesting that it has no nail nick, it appears to be a square frame, with no dots that I can see. It does have three rivets in the handle, where all of mine three line and early two dot versions have two rivets in the handle. Can you give us any more information about this knife. PLEASE, THANK YOU. HL

Ok so the blade, rocker, and spring holder were redesigned. I was wrong in the area of change.
Interesting as it was working for a long time since then. The stamp change seems in line.
Thanks David, I appreciate that. And we are a BCCI Member.

As far as searching for old threads I find a conflict between adding info to a historical thread (being admonished for bringing an old thread to life) vs. starting a new thread which requires knowledge to be repeated by the knowledgeable or told to go search.
