What I want are pants similar in design to the Royal Robbins/5.11 Tactical pants
but made out of Carhartt weight cotton duck or some type of heavy nylon fabric (cordura?), with a gusseted crotch and numerous pockets. I have 5.11's, Carhartt, and Arborwear. The Arborwear comes closest to what I want but doesn't have enough pockets and the belt loops are fairly tight for a 1 3/4 inch riggers belt.
Most other pants with a gusseted crotch (Gramicci) are made out of extremely light weight fabrics and have 1" belt loops.

Does anyone make something like this or do I need to start my own company?

Sputnik,

Those are really close to what I am talking about. If they came in o.d./green, black, or khaki/tan I would give them a try. Let me add that I would like to see a double knee but it is not essential.

Thanks,

IMHO : Pants made only of Cordura wouldn't be very comfortable. But they are tons of other fabrics that use Cordura blended with something else to make it more supple and/or strechy.
Ex : Quick Dry, Schoeller Dryskin, Schoeller WB400, some blend of Cordura/Kevlar/Supplex, etc.

I think heavy weight cotton really shines when you work near high heat sources (cf forging). It won't melt like most synthetic fabrics.
For all other applications, I like "high tech" synthetic fabrics better.

My advice (but I'm biased ;-)) : buy yourself a good sewing machine and take an afternoon course with someone that has some sewing knowledge. There's great chance that someone in your family could teach you basics. Then, you won't ever have to wear clothes you don't like or fit you perfectly.
