Who else loves them? I've been thinking about asking Garth to poon my TTKZ. Anyone else have any poon tipped blades? Preferably Busse/kin of course. Here are 2 that are poon tipped and scalloped spines.

I wouldn't say I love 'em, but they do look cool on the occasional knife, especially Bussekin knives, so I guess I like 'em. :) I definitely want to see pix of it if ya do get a KZII (sorry, you said TTKZ, my bad) with a harpoon tip!

Hard to see in this pic, but the SJTAC-v is harpoon tipped.

So, is a poon the same as a swedge??

No. Look at the drop off behind the swedge. Think of what a harpoon looks like.

Awesome contributions Jaxx and Gus. I'll make a new thread if I go that route with the TTKZ. Was wanting to nuke it but dayyyum that's pricey.

Oh yeah..duh..I see it now. Thanks

I've been wondering this for awhile, this seems like a good opportunity to ask.

What is the purpose of the Harpoon tip? And are they considered a Swedge.

Another hand raised for the Harpoon tip! :) Love that profile!

I've never had one but they definitely look cool-----I've just never been able to come up with a practical use for them.

But I HAD to mention, Jaxx, that Boss Jack with the mosaics and what looks like ironwood burl is gorgeous... I have been considering trying to get something EXACTLY like that. So glad you posted that so I have an idea of what it would look like.

Smaller sized harpoon tipped knives like the RMD provide a great place for your thumb when choking up in the choil to allow user to apply pressure along the entire blade

3rd down isn't really a harpoon but it is close.

Here is a good looking harpoon tip

2 nice harpoon tips here

And a great SH Variant with a harpoon tip

Holy Crap! I remember that cross stitched monstrosity! Isn't that the gaudiest thing you've ever laid eyes on? :) That thing has more sinew in it than a full on sword scabbard, I spent many hours stitching that one and most likely never will do it again unless under severe duress, or money waving in my face. :p

I have since discovered a sealer that will help keep those little strings that always come out of that sinew, if you feel the need I will coat it over for the cost of shipping, no worries at all. I call it preventative maintenance. :D
