I'm curious to know if any one own's or has done a review of this guys work, he talks big, claims he has hand forged clay tempered katana's. He's also said that that alot of martial artists come to him for equipment.

This is his web site:

http://www.dragonsongforge.com/

From all his talk i can't find anything on a review on his weapons, and his site seems like trash.

He also claims the blades themselves come from traditional masters:

Sun Ce Seo

Kun Chu Park

but I also can't find anything on them either.

My research says he's nothing but talk, however I would like to see if anyone in the community has had dealings, bought his weapons, or knows of any reviews on his products.

Thanks,

So the search function came back for non paying members. and i was able to quickly find another thread talking about this forge, found here http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=585044&highlight=dragon+song+forge

I will not be buying from this guy anytime soon, I understand this was a few years ago however I personally believe this says something about the quality of his wares.

I'm laughing my ass of on that thread....I really would avoid buying anything from that guy purely for his attitude.
Always contact a store before you order something to see what they are like. You could ask something about prices or something stupid like that, as long as you get a reply that shows you how reliable of store they are. This guy would fail it.

I have a quick review for you. I have been collecting antique katanas and tachis for almost 30 years, as well as having studied iaido for 4 1/2 years. My antique collection numbers over 30. I recently decided to return to formally studying iaido. However I am not about to bring an expensive, irreplaceable antique katana into a dojo and risk damaging it around first years (students). My local Token Kai members would not have been amused. So one day I noticed Dragonsong in the Largo Mall and stopped in. Matt the manwas very helpful in explaining the types of shinshintos, and the customisations available. I eventually bought a honsanmai core blade with a natural beautiful electric hamon. The blade cuts very well and the koshirae are modern but quite nice. Keep in mind, these blades are made by apprentices. You want a modern master smith to make you a blade? Well get ready to fork over alot of money and be prepared to wait awhile. Or buy an antique. For what they offer DSF does a better job thab all of the crappy online stores that send you flawed blades with garbage koshirae. My blade is quite nice and the furniture matches exactly what I wanted thanks to Matt's efforts and their custom options. Try that online!!

Did you seriously register just to resurrect a 3 year old thread about a guy who has already proven to be a jerk?

Well I did not realise the thread was that old. DSF is still in business and growing so the relevance is still there.
And gregorio, your limb broke. This is my first time on this forum.

I'm not trying to defend Rob, so how has he been labeled a jerk? I have dealt extensively with his store manager, having met Rob several times in the process. He has always been polite and professional. He has always been clear about his blades, he has told me his blades were made by master supervised apprentices. The forges they deal with are known pretty well to most anyone that is involved with modern katanas.

There's another thread on here, which is linked in this thread, in which he attacks a reviewer for daring to like a Cold Steel blade. Pretty transparent attempt at intimidation marketing, and a good indicator of his character, or lack thereof. That's enough for me to never do business with the guy. Might open your eyes a bit.

Just this morning I received a request on Linked In from a "Bobby Echat" of Dragonsong Forge. The name of the company sounded familiar so I had to search my own e-mail to discover that this was the guy who accused me of taking bribes from Cold Steel because I reviewed, and liked, one of their swords.

I can't believe this is coincidence. I imagine Mr. Echat recently resolved to establish a more active online presence, and I speculate further that he's probably the person who registered as "Akai" in order to put in a good word for his own work.

Phil,
I am not Rob, Mr. Echat, nor am I associated with DSF in any way other than being a satisfied customer. Your imagination and speculation have steered you wrong. The only thing you might be right about is coincidence. I mentioned the post I made to the store employees. Maybe they said something to Rob about it and he sent you an email.

The word "akai" means red. I am a redhead. Obviously Rob is not. Akai has been my nickname for almost 30 years in the SCA, US Navy, and in the dojo.

Please, do not drag me into your situation with another. I respect your reviews as being your opinion.

Thank you, Sir. That is all.
Akai
