Hey all,

Have any of you broken or severely damaged a Mora companion (not abusing or intending to break it)? Things like broken handles, large chips, broken tips or snapped blades?

In general I am a huge fan of Mora companion and honestly think it outperforms many knives that are substantially more expensive. I don't think I could ever break one, but I am yet to even have small chip in the blades.......something I cant say for other knives in my collection that cost 10x what the mora does.

In general I tend to think that people are much harder on inexpensive replaceable gear than expensive gear. Given the price and global availability of the Mora companion and its popularity I wondering amount other peoples experience.

Also I am wondering about the effect the resin/plastic/steel combo has on the durability in addition to the light weight. Yes I know its not full tang - but I have to think this combo may add in some ways to its durability. With the exception of one knife I have never damaged a knife beyond use or able to be repaired. The number one item the causes damage to knives in my collection is accidental dropping on rocks or concrete. A very easy way to break the tip of a "hard use knife". This has also happened to me with the Mora - but no broken tip. I have to think this may be because of the lighter weight.....

I've had one for years. Never harmed it short of dulling it a bit and putting a tiny chip in the edge. Very good $14 purchase.

I've never damaged my companion .
Its not had hard use , just general camp duties .
They are definately a classic .
Superb for the price .

Tough to break a Mora. The partial tang is actually in keeping with Nordic traditional puukkos -- my Roselli Carpenter has a partial tang, for instance. I've never had a problem with one even under hard use.

I have busted one on my farm. The partial tang gave up the ghost. Not abusing it, but it was definitely worked hard.

I bought another to replace it and probably have 20 laying around various tractors, trucks, and barns.

the Mora is by far the best bang for the buck knife out there.

I haven't, but if I did, I'd just get a new one.

I mean, they really are designed to be hard working knives that, if they break, or get dropped off the boat, or get too dull, etc you just get a new one.

Never have. I have an hd companion that ive had forever and my kids use it camping all the time, even as a throwing knife lol. I just strop it and its ready for more.

No, but there's a whole lot of chipping going on.
But then again, it has had a fair amount of contact with concrete and stone.

I don’t know what model it was, but I broke a Mora as a dumb kid trying to pry a toolbox open. Latch was rusted shut. The knife was my uncle’s, and he was plenty pissed at the time.

Not a Companion, but I batoned a Mora/Frosts 760 Craftsman through a log just to prove that you don"t need a thick knife, just proper technique. Afterwards I noticed that there was some wiggle of the knife tang in the handle.

I can't break one. I don't abuse them, but I don't hold back on them either.

I've chipped the stainless Companion, never the carbon. But it was small and easily sharpened out.

Really good bang for the buck, these Moraknives.

I bought a Mora companion for myself and one for my wife after she started using mine a lot. I don't know how but she managed to break the tip of hers. I fixed it with a grinder and my worksharp. She was probably misusing the knife.

$14? Can’t be. I paid $39.99 and it was marked down from $79.99. The guy said it was a crime to let them go at that price.

Well mine was a special deal. I only paid additional processing and handling. It was a package deal when I bought a set of Miracle Blade III knives off the TV at 10:45 in the morning while watching The Price Is Right back in college for the paltry sum of $39.95 (plus 9.95 processing and handling).
Lifetime warranty and came in a box laser-signed by Chef Tony. YES! THE Chef Tony. They even threw in the Rock-N-Chopper for FREE....well, plus an additional 11.95 processing and handling.

But all around, I think I got a pretty great deal. This back around 2002. I recently tried cutting steel shavings off a hammer like Chef Tony (omg THE Chef Tony!...still geeking out about that) did and managed to bugger the edge a bit. Well, I mean the knives ARE 17 years old. I should have known better. Warranty department seems to have changed its number. Not sure if it's because of the time that has passed or that I kept mailing Tony locks of my hair I cut off with my Rock-N-Chopper.
