Has anyone checked out the Strike Force Fire Steel?

Hi TF,

I have one. I think it takes up way too much space for what it is. I ended up just pulling the fat ferro rod out of it.

I think if your using it in extreme cold weather it would work well with heavy gloves on.
Its bulk will have an advantage in that situation.

I like the fat steel on it, and it does produce a shower of sparks. Most of the "bulk" is the storage compartment that has some wet fire tinder inside it, which you can replace with vasoline balls or whatever... but it's super to use.

I've been considering making a large purchase of the 1/4" x 4" rods for a while.

Spark,
I think you mean the 1/2" x 4" rods. That is the size most of your competitors carry. I have bought two. They are fairly useful but a little heavy.

I have one that I use when car camping (I use the Swedish Army steel when backpacking). It works very well, and throws a lot of sparks. The ferro seems to be softer than my Swedish Army firesteel. The handle compartment is a good idea, too. The only negative is the bulk, but that can be a plus in some situations, as was noted above.

ive had one for about 10 years, got one that was still being put out by Gerber. it is absolutely the best fire starting tool (not counting lighters, and flamethrowers) on the market. i have one, my boyscout son has one and as soon as my youngest is of age, he will get one too. only problem is they went from $12 to $18-$20 . --- Eric

I have the older model Gerber marked one too...excellent item. I replaced the foil pack tinder tab that came with it with the tinder quick cotten types that come with the sparklight....makes for a nice package.
It also fit's in a blackhawk pistol mag sheath perfectly...whick also fits the slots on most kydex sheaths...makes for a simple/rugged survival sheath kit.

it is a bit large, but as others have said it does a good job and is carries tinder also. i have carried one hunting for quite a while and have found it to be usefull.

cost is a little more than just a ferro rod this size.

I have 2..I love them, they have a great little storage compartment that you can store cotton balls in. Its a BIG ferosium rod, so they should last a long time, and tons of fires. Gene

I have one [the older gerber marked] and carry it when weight is not an issue, otherwise I use it for home BBQ lighting duties. I have never seen anything throw sparks like this does:)

I had one which was stolen, and as soon as I found where I could get another I did. It is always in my EDC stuff. They work great. I had been told that they weren't goping to be made any longer. Thanks for the new source. Buy one if you haven't yet.
