Has anyone used Dragonplate's Artisan Carbon Fiber?

I'm in the market for about 2 square feet of CF (0.125" or thicker, 2x2 twill) and need a decent price and plates with dimensions divisible by 4". Dragonplate seems alright but there's one negative review here on BF here: (first post, second paragraph) http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-pieces-of-carbon-fiber?highlight=dragonplate

From the sound of it, they were using the "economy plate"

Have you tried out Dragonplate's "artisan" stuff? If so, what were the results?

Thanks

EDIT: To anyone hoping for an answer to this question, I ended up buying 1 square foot and found no noticeable voids. Note that I use 3D milling to shape my inlays, which may make very small voids less noticeable

We used to sell Dragonplate CF. We switched to LVA (low void aerospace) carbon fiber because it is higher quality with much fewer voids.

LVA is a checkerboard pattern rather than twill.

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for the reply. Had you been stocking their Artisan plate or a different product? I've worked with twill CF before and it is what my customers are expecting (which is why I didn't go to AKS for this order).

The Artisan CF has the best surface finish I've ever seen on CF. However, as soon as you contour the scale or bevel the edges, the voids appear. I don't know how you will keep the surface finish from getting scratched as you make knife scales. We noticed surface scratches when we cut big sheets down into smaller sheets.

I have used some of Alpha's LVA CF . I have purchased a few blocks of it. Very nice stuff. I like it a lot and will certainly buy it from them again.

I ended up buying some. I guess we'll see how it goes. Hopefully my luck regarding voids continues. I'll be buying some LVA for the next batch (or sooner if the dragonplate doesn't work out)

Thanks!
