My fall hat has bitten the dust.
I need a new hat for hiking in the rain. I prefer something with a brim that will go from sun to rain.
Let me know your favorite.
Photos are always appreciated:D
As always, thanks for sharing your knowledge with me:thumbup:

sunday afternoon hat....fits over my ponchohood....has a tail that can be kept up or down....and a wide brim.....when low branches are involved take it off or you WILL bump yer head...i know from experience :)

I'm a good ole fashioned boonie hat kind of guy. It works perfect for me and takes a beating.

I almost always recommend Tilleys, but for fall weather, my recommendation goes to waxed cotton or tin-cloth. Personally, I like the Australian Outback hats, but would love to try a Filson. Here is my Australian Outback hat, I believe purchased at Cabellas.

For rain, you have two ways you can go. First, you can wear a ball cap under your jacket's hood. This can be nice when a hat with a brim might interfere with something else, such as a pack or bowstring. The caps bill helps keep the hood out of your way and keeps the rain off your face. It also provides the most protection. The downside is that the hood can interfere with your hearing and possibly your vision.

Second, you can wear a brimmed hat. This give good coverage without a hood and doesn't interfere with your hearing. If its really raining, I use my Seattle Sombrero. If its not too heavy, my vented nylon Tilley is great.

For years I have used a tan, mil-surp boonie hat that I regularly hose down with Camp-Dry or heavy duty Scotch Guard.

Seattle sombrero is very waterproof and good provided you aren't in a warm climate. They kind of cook your head IMO. I have one of the older US made versions. I am not sure if the newer models are the same.

Wool felt, crushable hats are great this time of year, especially in inclement weather.

Village Hat Shop!

That's where I get most of mine now. Got a couple of nice fedoras from them.

These DropZone Tactical boonies look pretty awesome. I've never been one to wear anything other than ball caps, but if I was to get a boonie, it'd probably be one of these.

For fall another vote for waterproof wool crushers- very comfortable and so far, bulletproof. @$30 at Bass Pro and REI.

Wool crusher....... Been wearing the same fedora crusher for more years than I can remember and I bought it used in a yard sale. The reason I like the wool over nylon, is that I might want to make a fire and nylon melts. A filson tin/waxed fedora would be great.

As a side, if you have to take a hat off because you will not see branches approaching your head, it's time to get a new hat. The one you got is worthless in the woods.

Filson bush hat (tin cloth, waxed) is my go to hat this time of year.
