havalon knives

I guess they'd be okay for opening boxes, but a box cutter costs a lot less.

Has any body used/handled one?

I would like to hear an opinion from some one who has actually used one.

Thanks.

I own and use this Havalon knives (Piranta and Baracuta). Use them when we go hunting and fishing here in Alaska. Have always performed for skinning and dressing moose, caribou, bear, and for filleting/cutting the fish. They work as advertised, very sharp, beware when changing blades as they are unforgiven.

I have had the Havalon Piranta and love it. The blades I have received have always been very sharp and it is by far my favorite knife for dressing deer or especially for skinning smaller game. For me carrying the replacement blades is lighter and easier than carrying sharpening equipment. Changing the blades takes some getting used to and seems dangerous at first but once you get the hang of it is not bad and for me easier than sharpening. The blades are very sharp but very unforgiving if you hit bone and I think they make you better at cleaning game as they promote good technique. I do not like them at all for fish as they do not flex, they break, and for fish I need to get through bone.
That being said as you an see this is my first post and I have not been really into knives. If I were a knife nut I could picture not loving these knives as I have never met a knife nut that did not love sharpening his blades. However, they lock up nicely and get the job done.

They're popular on the local level with some, still the blades are incredibly thin, and the users I know warn of accidental breakage, still, they have their place. Sorta like the Superknife. Some people simply don't want to sharpen a blade. We live in the disposable age.

I own one and think its great for skinning game, I've had no issues with my blades sharpness. Every blade I put on was hair popping sharp, it's good for skinning game but not for edc
