Have you ever owned a Valor boot knife?!

Come on, 'fess up old timers!

My then girlfriend bought me one for my 22nd birthday in 1983! Never could get it to take an edge! I gave it away to a pal 10 years ago, he was very pleased with it, he's started collecting knives since then!

A blatant and very inferior copy (but sold massively in the 80's - mainly to teenage boys I suspect)!

Copy of the Gerb. At the time in the U.S. , a Gerber would be $50-60, and the copies were $10 - 35 depending on finish and marketing. Didn't see many Valor copies, Explorer was the brand in my neck of the woods.

Those knives were the coolest when I was a kid. I didn't have Valor but I had 2 Parker Bothers Mark 2 clones and a Parker skeleton handled boot knife. They were actually pretty good quality for what they were and they took a very sharp edge (440c I think). I sold one, traded one, and in the case of the boot knife, gave it to a friend. I still think about those knives fondly from time to time. I kinda wished I still had the boot knife today as it was a good design.

The Valor was 440A, but just said '440'. 440C was the super-steel at the time and I'd only read about it in magazines. When I spotted the knife in a shop window (when we had knife shops here) I thought it was a Gerber. Valor were an American company, but the knives were made in Japan. The point was sharp at least! About the only part of the knife that was though. The sheath was OK, I knew a guy who had a knife made for the sheath because he liked it so much! The pal I gave the knife to is still very happy with it, even though he's got much better knives now.
