Having a hard time sharpening Benchmade Triage

I've been working the Benchmade Triage on my Sharpmaker the last couple of days and its semi sharp but doesn't seem like I can take it to the next level. The blade steel is N680 and I've been working it on both Sharpmaker stones. Is this a tough steel to sharpen and requires a little more work?

Use a sharpie on the bevel to check to make sure you hitting it properly as your angle may be off.
 
You can also try pulling a piece of phonebook paper tight to the flats of the sharpmaker stones. Start first by seeing if you are hitting the edge on the 40 degree angle. If it is matching the angle then it will cut the paper, otherwise it will slide. If it's sliding just slightly turn your knife away from the stone until it cuts (try both sides).
 
I have the "lone wolf" trask with the Benchmade N680. Early on I had times where I wasn't happy with the sharpening either. For me, my bevel came uneven and I retained some of the burr that was just folding over. I fixed my problem by evening out the bevel and I started using green compound on my strop. I've been keeping my angle 40 inclusive, but might knock it down to 34 inclusive. What angle have you all been doing with your Benchmade N680 blades?

I've been using my Sharpmaker with the 40 degree angle.
 
You have to reprofile it first. Which means the primary bevel (the portion of the blade directly behind the edge) is at a more acute angle than the secondary bevel (the cutting edge). So, if you want a 40 degree inclusive angle, you should probably sharpen it at between 15 - 17 dps (30 - 34 inclusive) until you are very very close to the secondary bevel. Then come up with that 40 degree and polish it up. Use a sharpie! N680 is very quick to sharpen.

Methods previously mentioned above related to using sharpie and the paper reference are both excellent advice for using the Sharpmaker. And, if understood and followed should put a fine edge on your knife.

The potential problem and solution most likely relates to the 40° position on the Sharpmaker being shallower (lower angle) than the existing bevel on your knife.

The previously mentioned recommendations are related to this specifically, and also related to showing you how to find the correct angle to hold the knife relative to the Sharpmaker stones when sharpening so that you can properly apex the cutting edge. You should easily be able to achieve shaving sharpness with proper understanding of procedure for this tool.
