i'm going on a trip to toledo (spain) famed as having the best blade steel in europe so the hell am i leaving without a toledo blade to call my own, i buy anything from folders to greatswords, from bowies to rope darts, so here's the question; i have a budget of £150 (211.50 euros, or $234) what should i get? (btw i have no interest in what i would term "fencing utensils" sabres, main-gauches, rapiers etc.)

I hear good things about MUELA brand. they are made in Toledo AFAIK and have been making knives for decades.

Toledo is not what it used to be in a distant past... Lots of cheap and "souvenir" knives around there.
If you find Muela, that's ok. They are good production knives and you can't go wrong with them.

But there is a fabulous place to visit in Toledo for knife nuts. If you have some spare time, visit La Espada Artesana knife shop (also known as Artesania Trinidad) . The owner, Jose Moreno, is a great person and knifemaker. He makes knives, swords..... I have one of his knives and it's top notch. You'll also see and handle lots and lots of handmade knives of traditional Spanish knifemakers. I can't speak well enough of that place.. just don't miss it.

greetings

cheers atspeed, i was rather worried about the souvenir knives eclipsing a good find but you've given me a place to start, thank you.

Hello Nathan

I have been there , and can echo the above comments.
A range of tourist junk , and no signs of anything quality.
Good luck in your quest !!
