Where could I find heavy duty carabiner clips? Looking for something like the one shown ~3:04 in this video. Any help would be appreciated :)

Looks like a climbing rated locking carabiner to me. You can get them at places that sell climbing gear, like REI, backcountry.com, etc. They are quite a bit more pricey compared to regular non rated carabiners though.

Pricey as in $5-10 a pop or $50+? If it's the former then it's not such a big deal to pick up just one, hopefully that's the case :) Thanks, will go searching for some climbing gear places :)

It looks a lot like the carabiner I keep my keys on.

Mine is an Omega Pacific and is rated to around 7000 pounds. I got it here, but it looks like the price has gone up a dollar. I'm pretty sure I paid $12.99 for it.

Overkill for keys, but if you needed to use it for its intended purpose it's not too bulky or heavy to carry.

Yeah, probably $10-20 for one that size. If you really want a climbing rated one, then you probably want to stick with companies known for making quality gear like Black Diamond, Mammut, Trango, Metolius, etc.

Thanks guys :) I've been wanting to try using a clip to attach my keychain goodies (small SAK, prybar, peanut lighter, etc.) to my belt loop instead of my keyring to alleviate the bulkiness and weight they add to my pocket, but I didn't want to use any of the small dinky carabiners I've found so far. Have an REI over in Boston so will head over there to check them out and see how they look.

Really appreciate the input

That is a locking D-ring, most likely aluminum, as other posters above have related. I think lawyer fees and liability insurance have pushed quality "name brand" versions into the $20+ range.

In terms of carabiners, what you saw is a standard duty item, the HD's are steel and weigh quite a bit more. Here's one http://www.rei.com/product/737853

If you want a big "biner" to clip on your belt loop, they don't come much bigger than this: http://www.amazon.com/GIANT-7-3-Snap-Hook-Carabiner/dp/B000XQHGWQ

These are very much so corrosion proof: http://www.rei.com/product/692379 We use them in salt water applications and they keep working over many years.

These little plastic "fake" biners have good application if you want to carry something but want a break-away or if snagging is an issue: http://www.rei.com/product/618420 We use them to hold dive gauges or auxiliary air mouthpieces (octos) to bungee neck cords.

Through all of that survival mumbo-jumbo and the using of two compasses to check one against the other... what was he proposing to do with that locking biner, anyway?

Why not just a non-lock or keychain rated biner?

I used a biner like this on my key chains. It is nice because it is not as big as a full size climbing biner, but it is still durabl and strong. The key chain biners always broke on my after a couple of months in my pocket. This one lasted a long time. But mine did rust a little bit when it got wet. You can find them at most hardware stores.
