What happened to Hedgehog Leatherworks????

Hedgehog used to make quality sheaths for common production knives. Their lead times were long but they made great products (mostly ranger style sheaths). Then it seems they shifted to making and selling sheaths made to order to selling in large batches that sold out fast.

Their last run I saw was for Esse 3-4 and the mora garberg. And the sheath was pretty cool and I wanted to pick one up but haven’t received any messages from them in a while. I checked and the website is down, but the Facebook page is still going.

The owner Paul Scheiter is a pretty cool dude who had a small YouTube channel and was very popular with equipped to endure back before it changed and got rid of Adam. Hedgehog leather works sheaths we’re very popular prior to the Bushcraft phase gaining in popularity.

At one point, I purchased a hedgehog leatherwork sheath for my Becker, BK-2 but ended up selling it to buy another knife. And honestly, it was the first knife I ever purchased basically off the recommendation from Adam from E2E.

Anyone have any idea what happened?

If I remember right the building where his business was sold and he had to vacate. An email was sent out to customers and it sounded like he might not be able to regroup. Sad, beautiful sheaths, love my Garberg sheath.

Sheathmakers don't seem to have much longevity! I'm starting to be able to count now the number of great sheath-makers and leatherworkers who have quit, gone out of business or died! It's quite alarming - moral of the story - if you see a sheath you like but it's expensive, just buy it - guy might not be around next week and you might regret it for life.

That’s a real shame, I own three of Paul’s sheaths myself, they are beautifully made.
Paul travelled to Chicago one day, and met me for some drinks, he is a really nice guy.
I hope that he is all right?
I tried to share one of my photos of his sheath, but wasn’t able to, is there a trick to uploading a jpg images?

I’ll go by their (possibly closed?) location today and see if there is any activity.

Saw a “for lease” sign posted at the entrance of the retail strip where Hedgehog Leatherworks was located. If I have time tomorrow, I’ll ask remaining tenants if they know where they may have moved to.

The patented retention strap, unique style, build quality, and price made Hedgehog pretty iconic. I love my sk 5 and wish it had a hedgehog sheath. 300 dollar sheaths for 100 dollar knives, lol.
