this is a rather whimsical post, but i have been training in martial arts for years now and my favorite weapon to train with is the tonfa. anyway, i just saw hellboy and one of the villains had a tonfa sword. i thought it was very interesting (also wondered why nobody thought of it before). i found some replicas online, but was curious if any knew if these swords were good or cheap junk and relying on the movie's popularity to make sales.

any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks again guys

You'd be hard pressed to find a movie replica item that is for more than just looks. There are some exceptions, but the majority of the time the items are made from sub-par steel with marginal attention to fit and finish.

... but I haven't handled the particular item you're speaking of, nor have I seen a review of it here or elsewhere...?

It has been thought of before. Rent "9 Deaths of the Ninja" to see Sho Kosugi's sword which can fold and become a tonfa-sword. He also has exploding and poison gas shuriken, dart-shooting sai, and explosive bolt shooting crossbow pistol, and for some reason has a bunch of lollipos strapped to his gear.

It's a pretty bad movie, but I've seen many that are worse. The only good part is that the terrorists are pretty funny, though that was probably unintentional.

I don't think either Sho's sword or the one on Hellboy would be practical.

The tonfa swords that have come out since the release of Hellboy are crap. A local knife store had a pair of them. It might look cool on your wall at a distance, but that's about it.

I would get one custom made if I really wanted one.

NOBODY THOUGHT OF THIS BEFORE!?!? You can't imagine how many teenagers came into my store looking for them the day after Soul Calibur 2 came out. A year later we get the Hellboy replicas in and nobody gives a crap.

I really enjoy the Hellboy comics and the movie, and thought that the swords were really neat looking. Functional? No, I think that those are strictly wall hangers.
