Got a Helle BraKar in trade at a local gun show a couple weeks ago. At the show, I was hot to trade, and really liked the look and feel of the BraKar. I had a Fjellkniven and have a Harding, and really liked both. Well, holding it at a purveyors table, and using it back home are two different things. I have big paws, but the handle on this knife is just too small. If it was thicker, it would be fine. It is a camp knife size knife, maybe a little big for a scandi grind. I have no problem with the blade, I just wish the handle was thicker. Does Helle sell anything comparable, with a thicker handle?

I`d actually suggest you look into the Brusletto knives aswell. The knives "Hunter" or "Bamsen" from Brusletto are quite good.
If you`re set on knives from Helle, i guess the "Grizzly" knife of theirs is bigger in the handle, than the "Brakar". Maybe the Brusletto "Storbukken"? It`s one of their newer large knives.
I do hope you find a knife that has a handle that fits your paws.

the brakar fits my hand pretty well, but i think i have seen a thich handled similar model. the Odel and the Trofe' both have a pretty thick handle.

Hmmm good to know about the handle. I was admiring BarberFobic's this past year and considered buying one. Have to think on it again...

I have a Futura (thats up for trade;)) that has a much better handle than the Brakar..I really liked the simple lines of the Brakar..as with most HELLE's..its light as a feather and sharp as hell. But I agree, the handle didnt do it for me either. Gene

I haven't handled the Brakar, the Jegermeister has a slightly larger blade (5.3" vs 5") and looks to me like the handle is larger. I've got larger than average hands and my Jegermeister fits my hands perfectly.

In a smaller blade, I would highly recommend the Nyng, it's oversized handle is very large and probably the most comfortable Helle in-hand in my opinion.
