Hey guys just been looking at a new knife and was curious if anyone has or does own a Utvaer? Really fell in love with this knife and can't find many reviews on it, in English anyways... So I thought I would come here and see if any of you fine folks know anymore about it then I do. Thanks!

Hi. I don't own this but I also was eyeing this a bit. In my opinion, Helle produce very good knives. I owned a first type Temagami some years ago (gave to a friend eventually) and was very happy with it. It looks to me the Utvaer it’s a good, sturdy outdoor knife, combining the traditional shapes and construction with more “modern needs and wants” and a bit of marketing :D, so to say. Here, in my opinion, are his strengths and weaknesses. Specific features of Helle knives are the hidden tangs and laminated steel; the Utvaer sports instead a full tang and a “simple” Sandvik 12C27 (a good steel by the way, I have the EKA Nordic W12 with the same). I personally find the presence and look of the “skull-crasher” on this type of knives not super appealing aesthetically but surely useful in some cases.

I read a pretty good review on Utvaer here (if I broke some rule with posting links, just edit this):

Hoping it can help.

I haven't really looked at Helle knives recently as my first one is still with me. Brought special delivery straight from Norway by my Grandmother .one of my earliest knives
like it was specially made for me [ 1947 !!] A keeper ! :D

I had a Helle Eggen for a time, enjoyed it and gave it to a nephew down in Texas. Lately I've had my eye on Helle's Saga Siglar, modeled on its Viking knife: triple laminated carbon steel, traditional dangler leather sheath. Not that I really need another...

Interesting knife: Helle meets Becker? The full tang construction with the sharp angled pommel gives it a distinctly American flavour. Full disclosure: I’m a fan of American made knives.

But in the case of Helle, I’m more taken with their more traditional offerings, such as the Gaupe. This is my one:

I’d love to hear your opinion on the Utvaer, if you decide to pull the trigger.
