I have had a bit of trouble finding a design that fits what I am looking for in a multi-tool. I need a multi-tool that has either pliers or scissors as a base, has at least flathead and phillips screwdrivers, a bottle opener and a file would be nice but not necessary. The multitool absolutely cannot have a knife or look like a leatherman or sak, so taking the blade out of one wouldn't work. If you happen to know of a product like this, please drop a post.

A plier or scissor based MT that doesn't resemble a leatherman? When in doubt build your own, best way to fill a niche

The quest isn't hopeless. Makandr posted this photo over in this topic in Bernard Levine's forum.

The one on the left is similar to a Dreizack Wusthof 7-in-1 multitool. You can search that on the big auction site.

The CRKT Guppy has a blade, but does not look like a Leatherman or Sak, would that work if you take off the blade?

Edit: The Swiss Tech Micro-Plus has pretty much everything you want, with no blade, but is pretty small.

I like the looks of the Wustof 7-in-1, It seems to fit the bill. Druk, I have looked at both, but the tool cannot have a blade to begin with and the one swiss tech I have held didn't seem like that great of steel imo.

EDIT: didn't see that the Wustof has a mini axe. Counts as blade:(

Leatherman Style PS -- obviously still mostly looks a like a leatherman, but different with the carabiner clip. No blade.
I keep one in my camera bag -- small, lightweight and very handy for occasional use.

personally I think you'd be better off just getting some small tools. There are little "star" type screw drivers and such that are sold for bikes and such. that and a small pair of slip joint pliers, and you should be pretty good for most stuff. thats the best way to have tools in places where multi-tools are frowned upon.

The Leatherman Micra has all your needs covered, it does have a tiny knife blade but that could be easily modified to be another screwdriver or something. It's much smaller than a full size multi-tool, but If the prohibition is brand or looks based that might not be enough...

The prohibition is based off of a looks like policy. But I did come up with an idea... I could use the frame for an allen key set, and replace everything with the tools I need. On that topic, does anyone know of a good place to purchase the replacement tools for leatherman mt's?

In that case, you can find screwdriver sets that do have the bits you want. that would be far cheaper than using actual multitool bits. I'm guessing you were meaning the type of allen key sets that fold out of each end?

Yes, that would be the idea. But even if I did the screwdriver version, I would still be replacing some of the bits with things such as a file, bottle opener, awl, etc.

My debladed Micra passes TSA security and is small enough to not be noticed in most situations.

Park tools makes some Allen key based multi tools for cyclists. None of them have pliers are scissors but scre drivers, bottle openers and spoke wrenches and chain breakers. Those last two are mighty handy if you need them.
