I pulled this one out of my bin of rusty swords received in trade. The plan is to teach myself to make a leather scabbard, which I have not done on this scale before. I redid the leather grip, although I have no idea the original color.

The image shows the original scabbard, as well as the wooden form I made, and the leather piece I plan to cover it with.
The only mark looks to me like a Kirschbaum knight's head logo. There is what appears to be a bronze finish on the guard, and some crosshatching near the thumb area.
I just made the pommel nut out of brass, the original was lost. The threads on the tang are 1/4" x 20.

I am unconcerned about value, but would like to know more about it.

Welcome aboard

That's a weird one. The knight's bust is for (likely) Weyersburg, Kirschbaum & Co. and imo post WWI. Kirschbaum used the mark previous to their merging and for a time, blades had both the crowned king and knight's bust.

Further spitballing a bit here is that it is a form of basket found on the Mensur/academic fencing sabres. This catalog page is from the 20th century and I think I pulled that from one of the Mensur threads over at Sword Forum International some years ago. Notes there somewhere but lost to my immediate memory. I'm pretty sure it is a WKC catalog page.

Seems like a move in the right direction. However, the ones in the image are clearly not meant to hurt anyone. Mine is sharp on the first 10 inches on the leading edge, and the first four inches of the back. It does not seem to be modified, but one never knows.
Dueling sabre, perhaps?

Love the pic, going to use as a screen background for a bit. Is Sword Forum Totally dead? I tried to go to it and it seemed like a virus/scam site took over.

The SFI owner has been dealing with some of the issues but a server change and misdirects can make life miserable. Try entering here.

The owner is peeved when I ping him about stuff and if trying to register, ping Mark McMorrow via Facebook.
https://www.facebook.com/SwordForum

He ignores email.

There is an ongoing misdirect if searching via Google and other engines. If you go back (close the new open tab) and click again, you will get through. The site really needs an overhaul.

Pages back to 1998 are still accessible through archive.org. Some threads back to the 2000 board
https://web.archive.org/web/20001109052100/http://swordforum.com/discussions/

You can browse through the years and then the 2002 board is all there except for the cafe area and other sections eliminated after 2008.
https://web.archive.org/web/19981201000000*/www.swordforum.com

One major differences in the board was that they chose to host uploaded images on a separate server and some current board "tweaks" saw some of the functionality disappear (smilies and other icons). The Antique&Military is the most active and other sections can be viewed back to 2002 (elect time frame from the drop down).
