El Monje Machete, 14' blade, 5' handle.
We've recently recieved an 'El Monje' machete from a yard sale. It depicts a monk reading a Bible at the very base of the blade. We've searched but have found no information regarding this particular type of machete apart form an old e-bay page. The blade is 14' long and tarnished, but renewable. Any information regarding the history (producers, place of origin, etc.) and value of the blade would be appreciated, thank you.
Will post pics if requested

Hey there. Did you ever find anymore information on this machete? I have a similar one that used to be my grandfathers when he was a grant-funded biologist hacking through the jungles of Costa Rica to study bats in caves. I was looking around and there's not much info on this brand. Did you ever find anything?

The ones I have seen were typical 60's - 80's machetes. The labels were the Collins style black and white, boasting that the machete was made by "Herramientas Agricolas Nicaragua", alas that's not helpful, because it translates into "Agricultural Tools of Nicaragua". The only other thing I can say is that most were based on the #127 Collins pattern, which is a wide cutlass style machete.

Here are some images of the machete. It says "Hecho en Nicaragua" and "Monje" with an image of a monk. It's tough to piece together what the sticker says.

Anyway, it's a cool machete that's been in the trunk of my car for a long time. I'm thinking of getting it sharpened and cleaned up. Will search the forums for a good thread on recommendations for that, unless anyone reading this has a good thread to share on that topic.

I can help you with the sticker -

It's Busquese La Estampa (Look for the stamp)
"EL Monje" (The Monk)
Sobre Cada Instrumento (on each instrument)
Si Se Quieren Los Legitimos (You want / to get the legitimate one)

-------------------------------------------------------
The rest of the sticker is a guarantee of excellent workmanship, etc.....
Vertical right is a warning to look out for imitations.
Vertical left is a warning that everything is trademarked / patented.
Top, small, horizontal is a continuation that everything is registered worldwide.
Bottom small horizontal is hard to make out, but it's a statement of legitimacy or an admonishment to only buy legitimate.
