Help! Stripping my HEST...

...And I need help. I'm using Citri-strip in an aluminum foil pan, with Reynolds wrap over the top. I've left it like that since 6:30PM (it's 10:45PM now) and I scrub it every hour with steel wool, and yet the coating just won't come off. How long can I leave my knife like this before the Citri-strip damages it?
I can take it out now and re-attempt this some other time, or leave the blade until 2:30 PM tomorrow. Will it suffer any significant damage from now until then?
Thanks

4 hours??
Something's not right...I used Kleen Strip and my Izula was bare in like 20 min.
I would suggest using a less-hippy stripper and see if that helps...
(I don't think the stuff you are using will harm the steel)

ETA: only other thing you could try is to coat it, and WRAP it in the aluminum foil - that helps trap the gasses better.

So, I can leave it over night with no consequences (edge retention matters not to me because I'm gonna convex it anyway)?
Oh, and I'm using the Citri-strip because I have nowhere but the downstairs bathroom to do this in, so fumes are a no-no, as are masks/other big contraptions like that for their dissipation.
Wish i could use a real paint stripper. But oh well.
Gonna look great after I patina it.

I bought some semi paste paint stripper. Mostly a clear gel. Wiped it on the HEST with a pain brush and in 15 minutes it was gone. If you can't do it inside whynot get some good stripper and set it outside on the porch or steps or something?

Check out RJ79's thread on doing a patina. He used "Ace hardware extra strength stripper" with great results.
His patina turned out amazing!

Some strippers will not work when it is cold. Are you doing it outside? I know it's a lot colder in NH than GA.

Horn dog, its about 65 in that room.
Thanks for all the helpful advice, guys.
It's really that I have no supplies for the mask/other stuff i'd need with the stronger stripper.
Citri-strip took the coating off my Becker BK9 in under an hour.
Guess that makes this 4 times as tough?
Assuming no one thinks the Citri-strip will have a detrimental affect on the steel in any way, I think I'm gonna leave it over night. I'll have pix up by 4:30ish tomorrow. If the stripper doesn't remove it by tomorrow afternoon, I'll use the steel wool and some elbow grease.
Thanks for all the advice, guys.

Personally, I don't like chemical strippers.

I did mine by laying it flat on a strop with sandpaper. I worked up through the grades while watching tv. I then convexed it. I prefer doing it this way because, I didn't want the coating coming off anywhere other than the flats.

Sorry about the quality of the picture.

Kind of reminiscent of a Bravo necker.

I just used citri-strip to strip a busse HHFSH with terrific results. I applied a heavy coat of it with a paint brush. I started off doing it outside and left it there for about 5 hours with no results. It was in the 30's outside. Then i took it in and left it overnight in the basement (in the 50s down there), and later that afternoon the coating came off easily with a plastic brush (no metal necessary). Took about 24 hours total soaking time. I used scotch bright finishing wheels and a portable drill to get a satin finish in about 20 minutes.

Hey im in bloomingdale il, about 10 min from west chicago. We should meet up some time.

Citri strip takes a looooong time. I used it before and said f this s--t! Extra strengh gel stripper works in less than 20min and the coating just falls right off the blade. Try 3m scouring pads instead of steel wool, they dont scratch the metal as much and work great!
