Stopped by the friendly local pawn shop and was chatting with the jeweler. He is a friend of mine. I glanced at watches at got some kind of Fossil Blue for $20. But he had a leather (faux or otherwise) Stuhrling Automatic watch in the case. The dial around the face was rose gold colored but the actual face was clear, as was the case back. The hands were shaped funny, kinda like propellers. He said he would give it to me for $70. I didn't get the model name or number written down but I may go back tomorrow. Help!

They have Chinese movements. Otto Frei sells those Dixmont-Guangzhou movements for about $25.00 so if the watch craps out on you can replace the whole movement cheaply. $70 sounds high. Depending on the Stuhrling model, $70 may be more than you can buy it new online.

Ok, sounds like I need to get the exact model #. Then go Googling. Thanks for the help!
What about the Stuhrlings that are $150+? Still the chinese movement?

Yes, the movements are Chinese though IIRC Stuhrling will only go so far as as say "Far East". Chinese movements and subcontracted cases, dials, and hands. Have no idea where they are assembled. Believe it to be Hong Kong, but their literature is (deliberately) vague regarding origins of components, assembly and finishing.

I was already thinking I was going to pass but now I am pretty sure. Thanks leghog!
Probably a good decision. You just need to read the reviews. Lots of problems. Chinese watches are always a crap shoot. Some even more so than others, and Stuhrling apparently falls in that category. Many owners of new Stuhrling watches are then surprised Stuhrling requires the customer to pay shipping both ways for warranty work.

You'd be better off with a Steinhart.

Depending on your needs the Orient brand (a subsidiary of Seiko) gets good reviews. I have an Orient Bambino that I will sell you if it suits your needs. My Omega takes care of my dress requirements.

Do NOT make offer to sell someone something in a discussion forum. You would also need a Gold membership or higher for that.
