I'm having a heck of a time trying to decide between these two packs. The EBERLESTOCK-FAC TRACK is 1900 cu in. for $289 and the TAD-FAST PACK EDC is 1800 cu in. for $325. Any advice or experience with either pack would be greatly appreciated. I'm not concerned with the price difference. The main uses will be as a daily bag as well as 2-3 day bag when needed.

Thanks guys

I can't speak to the TAD pack, but i was able to snag a FAC Track when they were 50% off a couple of months ago and am thrilled with it! The quality of construction is so solid and sounds, and it has a very nice layout that makes accessing your things a breeze.

Both are great, it's mereley a matter of personal preference and what you would like in a Pack. Quality wise there is no difference.

I have the fastpack and I can highly recommend it. The ergonomics of the shoulder straps are outstanding and have a low profile. The empty pack is already heavy, the FAC Track is even 50% heavier.
I really like the transporter tail und use it often, but that, again, is personal preference.

The best idea would be to handle both and decide afterwards.

I'm in the same debate as you. I'll probably end up with both. The TAD for short trips when I'm just have a handgun or 2 on me and the emblerstock for when I got my m4 or shotgun or both with me.

The EDC does not have a frame or frame sheet I believe. That is going to limit how much weight you can carry. Not sure about the Factrack.

they both look like a pile of webbing with a backpack stuffed into it.

It's been my experience that tactical packs usually aren't that comfortable for extended time or with any kind of weight.

But they sure do look cool, plus you could get some of those Velcro patches and add to the coolness.

Just one more thing, (Lazy Otter) you actually hike around with a shotgun and an M4 at the same time?

Yes I do sometimes. It depends on where I'm going, why, and if my gf is goin with me and but not everytime do I have both but I always got 1 or the other.

Ok, it's your back, just seems a TAD (get it:eek:) excessive. Kind of like the TAD pack at the top of this thread.

If I had to carry an M4 and a shotgun around because my girlfriend was with me I'd get a new girlfriend:).

Just messing with you.

(Just My Opinion) Just a lot of weight and uncomfortable/awkward to tote 2/two long guns plus hiking and camping gear around.

M4 and shotgun plus ammo for both should come in around 25LBs at minimum, plus 20-30LBS of camping gear would trash my back.

Must be in pretty good shape or young.

Have fun.

Not sure of this is still relevant after a month, but I use a Half track which isn't much different to the Fac Track. I did a review ages ago here:

I preferred the Half track myself just for the arrangement of things.

With regards to comfort of 'tactical' packs, I own this Eberlestock and a Kifaru Zulu, and have extensively used (and still have some of them) top of the range 'civilian' systems from Vango and Berghaus. I can say without a shadow of doubt that the Kifaru beats everything else I have ever tried for comfort, even if it does weigh so much before you even put anything in it. The Half Track is at least equal to any other in a similar load-carrying class, apart from the Kifaru.

I also had a Maxpedition Vulture II and found it completely useless if I put anything more than a pack of sandwiches in it, due largely to the lack of a frame.

It is I agree! I've gotten into ultralight camping and hiking which still has it's drawbacks. It's all about what critters are around ( bad run in with coyotes ) and odd locals....lol....hunting trips and sometime I just take the handguns...it's not for everyone and that's understandable it's just my preference.....and it doesn't matter if my gf is with me or not if I'm alone I take the M4 if she is there I take both sometimes.
