I am about to buy a buck bantam camo 286CM model in a couple of hours. Looks like a great knife for only $20~$30 USD. I was hoping to get some user responses but in such a short amount of time I think I'll end up being the one telling ya'll how it works :o.

Here is a link to the knife: http://www.buckknives.com/catalog/detail/584/223

If anyone has used these or heard of them, please let me know about the knife.

If I buy it before anyone posts, then I guess I'll end up giving a brief review about it tonight around 11:00pm Central time. Thanks for the help, J.

Alright guys, looks like I'm giving the answer to my own question seeing as how I already bought the knife.

It is a very light folder, barely above 3 oz. Great handle shape and ergonomics. Fits the hand great, the blade looks and cuts awsome.

Easy to get a scary sharp edge on it with a 1:1 stroke from a diamond rod. Great knife, pretty much the blade of a 110 with the compactness of a folder. Picture a buck 110 with a feather light handle, and that is this knife. Great blade shape and edge.

Due to the low price, I or "you" won't feel guilty about actually putting the knife to use. Since it is 420HC, it will remain stain free for a lot longer than most knives on the market.

The only downfall of this knife is that you cannot fix it up, meaning that it is held together with rivets, not screws. I would recommend that if you were to get one of these, to "test" the knife first to see which one you like, because they could either come out with blade play, or tough to open and close, etc...

The one I picked out has zero blade play and opens and closes with an authoritative "snap" from the lockback. There is enough steel poking out that you can close this knife with one hand by pushing down the lockback, and flinging your hand forward, causing the blade to close on your hand. The steel that is poking out of the knife will actually rest just barely on your index finger. Then you can move your finger and close it, all one handed.

Great knife for the outdoors and I can't wait to really use it!!!

I have one. I really like it. It is very comfortable in hand. Mine has zero blade play, very smooth and locks up great.

While I don't have the camo' one, I have all of the different sizes in the Bantam series, and they are great buys.

Solid no frills workers!

I bought a couple bantams for christmas gifts last year, on said it was the best knife he ever carried, I wouldn't go that far but a very usuable knife at a good price imo.

True, it would seem to be an even "better" knife if I didn't know about brands and makers. Still a really good knife for the money and at a great price as you said.

I was just placing an order and decided to throw in a BBW Bantam. Sounds like a pretty decent knife for the price. How is the "edge2x" on the 420hc blade holding up for you guys?

I like the edge a lot. It is very similar to a buck 110, just without the pointy end. This knife is a drop point blade, and very useful. I used mine today to make three penny stoves out of aluminum cans (six cans to be exact) and it was the only tool I used for the job. This included cutting the aluminum, drilling holes with the tip, and pressing the two ends together to form the stove. In the end it was still sharp as ever, but I touched it up so that I would feel better :o.

I made two leather pouches for my SAK One Hand Trekker using just my buck bantam and a needle for the sewing. It's still razor sharp and is holding up great! I can't wait to try it out camping.

I just got mine in the mail today. It was out of the box shaving sharp, we'll see how it holds up. I’m not crazy about the rivets holding it together but who knows, maybe they'll stay nice and tight; time will tell. So far, so good though; it’s a decent knife for the money I think:thumbup:

Glad to hear it! I know the rivet thing sort of put me down, but just for a moment. They have held up nicely since I bought mine, and as you can read above, I have done a lot for just a short time with my bantam and it has held up nicely. Like I said before, if I didn't know about the higher end brands out there, this would seem to be an even nicer knife especially for the money.
